Despite what you seem to believe, a good economy is not one in which most people are dependent on government handouts.

Democrats can condition people to believe that thats the way life should be but its not healthy in any way for a people to believe or to behave that way, or for a government to foster such dependance.

I completely agree. A good economy (and a strong nation) is one where most people don't need to depend on handouts to survive.

I don't really understand how you think this works. I mean, do you think that the government can look at low unemployment rates and think, gee, we need to find more people to give welfare to, there are too many people employed.

It's like a doctor saying, well, if people were healthy, they wouldn't need medicine. Yes. That is true. So focus on making them healthy, not on restricting their access to medicine.

willbeurdaddy -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 8:35:02 AM)

In an NBC poll less than 2% of adults think that abortion is the most important issue for the government to address. It may carry some minor weight in the primary but is meaningless fpr the general. (and that 2% includes other issues).

They feel they have to resort to personal attacks, as they have no real arguments, Bama.

In an ideal world they would simply admit that they are wrong...

mnottertail -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 8:40:15 AM)

And again that is bullshit.  I was civil. I am civil. There is not alot of other words to use for bullshit, or asswipe or ignorant mouthings, but I mean wrong is wrong and terribly profoundly wrong is terribly profoundly wrong.

If you say that high corporate taxation is a contributing factor to moving production offshore then you can provide factual credible evidence of that, and there is not an iota.

Watch closely.

Jobs have been moving offshore for many many many years, when the tax cuts were extended only the money from those ofshore productions were claimed here, because every major corporation has been crying poor and many got bailout money.

This year (and just recently it has been quietly in frontpage news) many corporations are headling record profits.   The money has come home to roost for bonuses and political spending.  The jobs aint.

Corporate profits do not equal jobs in your hometown, end of fuckin joke.

Do you think that Obama is doing such a great job in other areas that, if the economy doesnt improve substantially, he has a chance in hell of winining the next election?

Lucylastic -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 9:02:10 AM)

I think he will be re-elected barring a terrorist attack, a catastrophic downturn or a scandal , the repubs sitting with their thumbs up their arses and stripping women of their rights are dangling badly and looking worse day by day.

Since whatever can be done with the economy comes directly out of the house, I think that republicans are in deep shit.

If youre so smart (by virtue of not living in Idaho [:D]) explain how you would punish all of these eviiiiiiiiiiiil employers enough to make them want to keep their jobs and  industry right here at home...

As always Idaho is fantasy land.  Nike didn't start making shoes in Vietnam because they were forced to by the Government.  Apple didn't stop manufacturing anything here because the Government drove them to it.  As others have done it was for the sole purpose of maximizing profits and driving up the value of their stock options.

Great for their private wealth.

Answer the question.  How is that good for our economy?

The thing government did to encourage (not forced) companies to move offshore is that we have the highest corporate tax in the industrialized world. We can stick it to the rich or cut corporate taxes and make it more profitable to stay here.  More business stays here = more jobs =  more money for the working man = more taxes from their pay = better situation.

The reason we have a healthy, well paved, well policed, well lit, clean and productive environment to do business in is because of the taxes that pay for those things.

If a company want`s to do business here, benefit from our markets, use our infrastructure, they have to pay their share.

If an American based company with it`s owners living here(in the US) wants to move to Mexico, great.Just make them pay a penalty for it,instead of giving them a tax break for moving.

We could change the tax code to do that. It`s our fucking country.Business and commerce is their to serve society, not the other way around.

And tell them to arm every manager and worker with a bullet proof vest and keep some body-bags on hand.

Buenos tardes.

not in the least, in fact its been an awesome day. And when I get to laugh so hard at one of your asinine assertions it makes it even better!

Lucylastic -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 9:52:45 AM)

so getting rid of PP funding is helping women?

mnottertail -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 9:53:39 AM)

no more so than axing milk for their babies has given them a leg up.

Cheaper prices so more can be spent on other products.

Yes because by mentioning Apple and Nike I referenced companies who sell their goods at "budget" prices.

I understand the purpose.  Maximize profits, raise the stock value and pocket tons of money for the board and company officers.

Again how is that good for our economy?

mnottertail -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 9:55:12 AM)

Apparently that is good for women, because they buy those things.

Sure, I'll happily tell you my thought on that.

Right after you answer the question,

You made the claim that the accumulation of personal wealth was good for the economy.

When CEO's make choices to close down plants and move jobs overseas so they can maximize profits and get rich off their stock options,

How is that good for our economy?
