DarkSteven -> The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 6:04:13 AM)

The GOP field faces two issues.  Both are derived from the fact that it takes a different candidate to win the GOP primary than it does the general election.

1. Conservativeness.  Abortion is the extreme example.  Anyone who opposes abortion will have a very hard time in the primary.  Anyone who supports abortion will have a very hard time winning the general.  Same with all the other social issues.  Romney's already prepared to equivocate and weasel on this one, and some Republicans are already uncomfortable with him in anticipation!

2. The economy.  The GOP is taking a stance that spending cuts are necessary.  The average American is far more concerned about jobs.  The GOP is still insisting that tax cuts magically produce prosperity despite the entire Bush presidency proving the opposite.

Hillwilliam -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 6:10:15 AM)

I always enjoy watching BOTH parties eat their own during the primaries but the second that nomination is handed out, "We're all one big happy family".

Lucylastic -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 6:20:39 AM)

Ive never cared to watch primaries before, but this season is one that I will be watching carefully
however, in my oh so un humble opinion, it doesnt matter,
so far there isnt one contender that could win against Obama, unless there is some major upset between now and next november.
So far, they are snoozing so bad they are in danger of being comatose. IGnoring their part in the disasters going on is gonna hurt them bad
lets see some actual people getting their lives back on track with enough money to live on and a job that pays for it.
tax cuts to the rich aint gonna cut it

Sanity -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 6:22:38 AM)

Abortion isnt the slam dunk issue for the Dems that you think

http://www.pollingreport.com/abortion.htm

And the economy is far more complicated than you seem to think it is too.

Ive been warning for some time that the higher energy prices that are so dear to the Green Dems can potentially dash any hopes for  recovery, as an example - and we are seeing that play itself out right now.

Is watching our politics a little more interesting than watching the Canadian snow melt, dear? [:D]

Yeah, I've read that the only one who could beat Obama in 2012 is Obama himself.  Mostly, the state of the economy by then.

nothing the Repubs have up there sleeves is going to improve it so far
just making it worse for those who arent earning more than 200k a year

Sanity -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 6:36:15 AM)

Except lower energy costs, lower taxes, fewer burdensome regulations on businesses, and a lot less hateful rhetoric towards business than from the current "leadership".

Oh - and less government spending, lowering the national debt.

That will help the economy in countless ways.

Lucylastic -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 6:37:43 AM)

as I said, NOTHING they have so far is going to change things in the economy, except for the rich
cant you read today?

It is irresponsibly premature to accuse the conservatives (rinos, republicans, neo-cons, and teabaggers) of fiscal responsibility now or at some future time; simultaneously, it is irresponsibly inaccurate to accuse them of fiscal responsibility in the past.

And regardless of the political theater, whether they raise the debt ceiling or not, the fact is, the house is republican and the debt is climbing, not decreasing.....

FACT.

Sanity -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 6:59:09 AM)

If people are creating wealth and holding on to the wealth they create then the economy by definition is good. No?

The Democratic war on private wealth is by definition a war on the economy.

A Dems ideal country seems to be one wherein government takes money from job creators and uses it to pay people to not work... then wonder why there is eventually no money to go around.

You didnt
now stop trying to deflect and twist
what do you see as the GOP Candidates problems??
Oh by the way? it has NOTHING to do with handouts
it has to do with THEM(republicans) NOT Giving a shit about JOBS for those who WANT TO WORK
Now can you respond that with any amount of honesty?

flcouple2009 -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 7:04:59 AM)

Oh really?

When the CEO and Board of Directors close up shop and move their factory off shore, maximizing their profit, and driving up the worth of their stock options they create private wealth.

Please explain how they have done something good for our economy.

Sanity -> RE: The GOP candidates' problems. (6/9/2011 7:07:18 AM)

Despite what you seem to believe, a good economy is not one in which most people are dependent on government handouts.

Democrats can condition people to believe that thats the way life should be but its not healthy in any way for a people to believe or to behave that way, or for a government to foster such dependance.

Yeah only 77% of the respondants in the most recent poll feel abortion should be legal in some circumstances. That certainly puts the social conservative position in the correct light.
