Finally, someone realizes that controlled substances are the domain of the Fed not the state

DarkSteven -> RE: Medical marijuana ruled out at University (1/28/2011 6:59:01 AM)

Sort of.

They are in fact illegal at the federal level.  Those states that have legalized it are plunging into a gray area, in which the law itself is not as important as HOW the law is enforced.

You do understand that outlawing mj and booze at a college will not magically cause it all to vanish?  The cited article states that officials have issued pronouncements - we'll see what enforcement consists of.

KenDckey -> RE: Medical marijuana ruled out at University (1/28/2011 7:36:15 AM)

Oh yeah.   I know that the Fed won't enforce their law, just like so many others.  Justice has a selective mentality I think in its enforcement efforts.   I also know that it won't disappear off campus, however, recognition of the law and writing policy accordingly is important too.   I know planning and zoning here is looking at the matter.   Held public hearing on Tue.   I didn't go because I recognize they are caught between a rock and a hard spot.   Violate federal law or violate state law.  I think they decided on the zoning requirements tho.   not sure what all they are.

And I don't care which president or congress or legislature or govenor is involved.   If you aren't going to enforce the law in the first place, then a new law  won't do anything and you might as well change the exhisting law to make it legal.

I am courious tho, how many counties became dry counties so to speak for mj as they are for alcohol?

Maybe if more leftists were stoned they wouldn't vote. I laugh at medical in marijuana, what a hoot.

You seem to laugh at many things you dont understand.

Maybe next they will force the insurance companies to pay for it for them.

You wouldn't be laughing so hard if you had arthritis or palsy.

KenDckey -> RE: Medical marijuana ruled out at University (1/28/2011 7:49:46 AM)

I have arthritis.  That has nothing to do with it being illegal at Federal Level.    I won't take it.    I don't need the federal drug conviction.

tazzygirl -> RE: Medical marijuana ruled out at University (1/28/2011 7:54:37 AM)

Cancer, MS, Glaucoma, IBS, Migraines, Fibro, Hepatitis, Alzheimers... the list goes on and on.

Moonhead -> RE: Medical marijuana ruled out at University (1/28/2011 7:54:38 AM)

Not my point, Ken. I was just pointing out to gatorboy that the herb is wonderful for treating arthritis, and the fact that sufferers can't just get a scrip for the stuff instead of being expected to take heavy doses of opiate based painillers instead is completely out of order.

It's supposed to be brilliant for glaucoma and CF as well, isn't it?

I think they've found that it can help with eating disorders as well, haven't they?
(Who'd have thought the munchies could have a medical application?)

tazzygirl -> RE: Medical marijuana ruled out at University (1/28/2011 7:59:26 AM)

Anorexia, definitely. As i said, the list is endless and growing yearly. And i have always admitted to the medical wonders of pot... however, it does have its drawbacks.

KenDckey -> RE: Medical marijuana ruled out at University (1/28/2011 8:00:33 AM)

Then change the Federal Law.   Pure and Simple.   Tell the FDA that they are wrong,

The point is that it is illegal.   States don't have the power to over rule the fed in this arena   If so, then lets just go back to the days wherre there were not controlled substances and put the drug cartels completely out of business.

Moonhead -> RE: Medical marijuana ruled out at University (1/28/2011 8:28:48 AM)

I thought you had a few 'States who had legalised (or at least decriminalised) it for medical use?

I think the late Mister Tosh deserves the last word, here...

flcouple2009 -> RE: Medical marijuana ruled out at University (1/28/2011 9:02:53 AM)

Ahhh but moon your missing the point.

The states should follow the federal law.  Unless of course as in the  immigration laws when the State of Arizona decided to write their own and ignore the Fed.  In that case it was good for the State to do whatever they wanted.

That whole thought process would be hysterical if it wasn't so completely pathetic.

I read that as the implementation of Federal Law, which is required by the same federal law.    Did I lose something.   Oh yeah.   You want people to come into the country in violation of our laws (least it looks like that to me).

Cool,   his message is to legalize it.   Like I said.  That has to be done at the Federal Level.   Go for it.   Till then it is still illegal

flcouple2009 -> RE: Medical marijuana ruled out at University (1/28/2011 9:28:32 AM)

Now now Ken, let's not change the subject.

The point is you want the fed law followed when it suits you, or the state to make their own law instead when it suits you.

Stop having multiple personalities.

As I've patiently explained to you before the states do not get to enforce federal laws.
