I went with a friend to see a stage play...Fiddler on the Roof.

It was wonderful.  I had one drink that night, and it might have been soda pop.  I remembered my friend taking a sip of her machine made/measured drink and making a face.

I have never been drunk in my entire life.  I don't see the point...alcohol does nothing to me but make me very sleepy.  There was no big deal about finally being able to drink alcohol because I had already had some at home, from the time I was 11.  Because of my DD's, I could go into bars with friends and not be carded from the time I was 16.  Being 21 was no big thing...I had been an emancipated minor from the time I barely turned 17.

I'm glad I had the memory of watching Fiddler on the Roof instead of getting drunk, passing out, and having to endure a hangover.

I've never had one of those either.

Well, I do know I was in the Army and at Ft Gordon then, so I am sure I did something fun.

Thing is, I have no fucking clue what it was....dammit I am old.

Sighs.

eta Yay!!!! I aint the only old fuck who has lost brain cells!

looks like, yeah....I also had to think back what I was doing at that time, where i was living etc. but really, 21st wasn't special in my country. The only thing I do remember was my granny telling me that years ago I would have reached adulthood now....and not aged 18.

But glad to hear to have such gorgeous parents

smiles....yep I have incredible parents, I truly am blessed

and in Australia we often celebrate both the 18th and the 21st even though we get to go to pubs (legally) at 18.  What can I say, we like to party

I think I went out to eat with my bf at the time, or something, I do n't remember. Not because I got drunk an the nights a haze or nothing, but because I have memory problems sometimes.

It was really, really unspectacular though I can tell you that lol.

Being 21 wasn't a big deal to me, honestly. I am not a big drinker, Getting smashed is the last thing I care to do, the only benefit of being 21 was I was then legal to go into bdsm clubs, and bdsm groups couldn't exclude me because I was 18, but under 21, since most clubs are 21 and over.

Ah...I was in college, madly in love for the first time truly, with my first Dom, having earth shattering sex on my 21st birthday.

While that was SO long ago, I do remember it vividly.

Memories....

My husband hired a babysitter, he took me out with some navy friends and got me totally drunk, came home, slept and that was pretty much it.

Explanation first. The legal drinking age in Germany is split. 16 for soft, 18 for hard stuff. Age of majority 18.

For my 16th birthday some friends took me out to an Irish pub for music, Guiness with black currant syrup, and salt and vinegar crisps.

My 18th birthday took place while I was on holiday in the Dominican Republic with my then boyfriend. There was a dinner at a very nice restaurant, cocktails at a bar, and sex on the beach during which we got busted by guards with really big guns.

For my 21st I was at Disneyland Paris with the guy, and got pregnant with Oldest.

alcohol isnt really a big deal to me anymore. i have a small glass at dinner most times. i appriciate a nice martini from my master mixer bartender friend, but thats it. i've been loaded 4 times in my life on alcohol, and frankly, thats all that i see happening. i think i was expecting it to be a big deal, but when i think about it-being on my own since 15, owning a house & car, 3 well-paying jobs, i haven't the faintest clue as to what would make me more of an adult than i am now.

It was Labor Day Sunday that year and I have no specific recollection of what I did to celebrate that day. I likely stayed home that day and relaxed and did not celebrate. I was in between relationships so there was nobody to celebrate with.

I had been legal drinking age since June 29th of the year before (the day I relocated to a state with a lower drinking age) so doing the big legal alcohol thing was not on my agenda on my 21st birthday. I do remember vividly the very first beer I legally purchased that June 29th. I sat alone at the end of the bar in a hotel lounge and savored that beer and my new found independence. It's not the best bottle of beer I ever drank but I have never enjoyed one as much since.

Happy Birthday.

I had the mother of all parties. The custom in Ireland was to gift the birthday girl or boy €21 - so I made enough to holiday for weeks. I went to the UK and France for 3 weeks and had a ball. The best memories however are of friends and neighbours dancing on tables in a sleepy little town at my party through the night and into the next day.

Spent the entire day besotted with McSorley's dark ale amid the musty odors of Liederkranz cheese. Oh how that is missed!

I don't recall it being memorable at all.....

I was a Junior in college, not seeing anyone. I might have very vague recollections of going to the town bar (believe it was the only one), but possibly not.

Yep, completely unmemorable. I don't think my adult life really kicked into gear until I was about 26.

i just turned 21(woo-hoo, big deal) and frankly, i have no idea what to do with myself to celebrate in an exciting way. I've had NO sleep since 12:01am due to everybody and their mama(not a joke) calling me to wish me a happy birthday. While i deeply am thankful that they thought about me, i really just want a really good plate of buttery and garlic-y shrimp scampi, a glass of decent white wine, and to curl up with my boyfriend-instead of getting completely loaded and probably passing out in the middle of the street like all my friends who have turned 21 have done at some point or another. Yes, I'm quite dull, but its my birthday so i can do what i want. with that said, what did you do when you hit 21?

Stuck on the gate of a military station, rifle in hand watching for the enemy.

That other milestone, the eighteenth birthday I leaned Pernod was not a good thing to drink in excess.

oh holly, you and your icons. as an update to all, my father sent me a bottle of single malt scotch, aged 21 years. he was planning to have one for my brother when he turns 21, but he's diabetic and that would be no bueno.

My 21st birthday was the release day for the first Guitar Hero, I had preordered it on a whim (after it was mentioned in Penny Arcade -- I was like, hmm, seems interesting, and I like DDR, so...), and at that time Red Octane was cool enough to ship it early so that it actually arrived on the release day.... And so, I basically spent all day playing Guitar Hero.

I never cared about drinking, so, the fact that I was then legally able to do something I didn't want to do anyway, didn't matter. =)

Fnord.
