I don't disagree, The Banshee. People can be so very manipulative, evil even. The bottom line is we don't know and as outsiders we won't know. We'll only know what we read / hear. But, again, he can't blame her or anyone else for his actions, which in this case are only words.

Another point - this stuff goes on every single day, it just doesn't become world news(entertainment and news and gossip overlapped a long time ago, but that's a whole other topic for discussion). Most of us have likely known of similair domestic situations, and most of us know people who need help but aren't egtting it, and most of us know people who are so compulsive and so angry that they've snapped. A guy I grew up with killed his wife afew years ago(he's doing 20 hardtime, and I hope it's real hard). So many expressed shock and I expressed shock that they were shocked, but again, this is getting into other potential topics. What I want to say is add to the list of things I mentioned in the privelege list in my first post that those Hollywood people live in a fishbowl. Talk about having your buttons pushed, almost 24/7. It takes strong character and determination to not succumb to what all that can do to you and not end up making yourself and everyone else around you crazy.........

Meh, Mel's 54.

The point still stands, that a guy might treat his wife differently from his girlfriend who got pregnant out of wedlock.
i strongly disagree. If he is abusive to his girlfriend he would have been the same with his wife, in one way or another. He was married to his wife for 30 yrs. I find it impossible he could have hidden an abusive character for that long of a time.

Abusers do not have an On/Off switch.

I am not saying he is not/was not abusive, but the full story is not being told.

Pics?  How much proof do you need?  the fact that you think Mad Max is cool is irrelevant to his behavior, which WAS taped, when he was apprehended by the police.

None so blind as those who will not see.

I'm not saying he is guilty, or innocent....only that if anyone could be clever enough to fool people with a well done tape...someone with experience behind and in front of the camera would be my first choice.

Don't always believe what your eyes see.   Perhaps we witnessed only what Mel wanted us to?  He is too knowledgable in the workings of film to think this was a gross mistake.   Only he knows the reason(s).
