Have you ever noticed that that entire poem is really a bunch of insults?  HEH.  And yet his love is as rare as any....  *swoon...

Could you post that in the new Rickman thread?  I haven't read that poem in forever and would love to again.  I didn't see it that way though...to me...he saw clearly who she was, everything about her and loved her anyway, or even...because of these faults.  That's what made it so endearing to me.

I have loved the most stupid things about the men I was with...even the way one used a Waterpick and looked asinine doing it with water shooting off in every direction while making Carey type faces.

Okay, LaserKitty, the back story...
I typed it out in this thread, but I'll copy and paste the part about Rickman here.

There's someone I have to add to this list out of gratitude, even though I never met him.  Around 4 years ago, I had just finished my 4th chemo.  Chemos 3 and 4 had been taken back to back, had lasted over 9 months and neither had worked.  I was on "wait and see" and at an all time low that I couldn't kick free of.  I spent a lot of time at a fanclub forum on EZ Board, and when I hit rock bottom, my friends (2 I had met in person) went behind my back and suddenly things began arriving in the mail.  The fanclub had been for an English actor named Alan Rickman, some Harry Potter fans would recognise him better as Professor Severus Snape.  Anyway, some of the girls sent me pix of him from their printer (mine was broken, lol), others sent scraps of HP fabric I hadn't seen before, bookmarks, HP stickers, and they pooled some money together to get me 2 DVDs...Mesmer and Robin Hood; Prince of Thieves (Rickman was the Sheriff, and this was the extended European version, yum), and another woman who lived in Europe went to a reputable company that sold autographed photos of celebrities and they bought me one.  So I had an autograph, my very first.  But...something else happened.

A large envelope from England arrived.  From Alan Rickman.  I was squealing as bad as any teenybopper fangirl, lol.  I will never forget that moment as long as I live.

I got several autographed photos, and a calendar with scenes of peaceful countryside stuff.  I learned that his father had died from cancer.  Within the year, I was in remission.  For no reason.  The girls made me take pix of everything, including the envelopes and letter from his secretary.  Turns out that my name written on the envelope with the pictures...was in his handwriting, not in hers.  The girls almost screamed themselves hoarse when they discovered that and told me about it.  I hadn't noticed.  <has the grace to blush>

I've been in remission ever since.  *crosses fingers and knocks on wood*

Those women friends and their husbands...actually popped me on the head and guilted me into dating again, lol, and someone from that site...led me to another site (for CGI artists, which I'm not) that ended up leading me here.

So...the fact that I'm here is sorta Alan Rickman's fault.

You are missing the point.  I never said that learning about famous people was important.  I said that it is really unlikely that someone has never heard of household names.  And you can's be all that harried.  You have posted a bunch of times on this thread alone.

I think that you are missing the point Kal.

Is not looking up the correct spelling of a word or using spell-check going to matter in 5 minutes?  An hour?  Tomorrow?  Next week? A year from now?  5 years from now?

It is a matter of priorities.  In the larger scheme of things, taking the shortcut of using an (sp?) instead of looking the word up just does NOT really matter.

Don't sweat the small stuff, buddy.

If I was in school, and was handing in an English paper (or actually, probably any subjects paper) I would bother to check my spelling.  On a forum board anyone is free to ask me if they don't understand something I spelled, but I'm usually not too far off from the target.  If being off target, even slightly bugs someone, its their personal problem, not mine.  I will occassionally use the [sp] thing because I'm not sure of the spelling and don't feel its necessary to check it for a forum post...or edit to correct my typos, if I think its going to make a difference.

**editted to add I was not replying specifically to Elizabeth Anne :).  Her post was at the bottom of page one and it was there I decided to post my reply.  So....I do edit when I think it deems fit.  But for the most part we all know english well enough to overlook and comprehend typos

It doesn't really take any longer to type a word into the little box on top of the screen than it does to type (sp?). But beyond that, I once posted a thread about rickshaws. Someone replied that they did not know what a rickshaw was. It would have taken two seconds to look it up...less time than to type that you don't know, and far less than to wait for someone to post a response explaining it.
