Those sons of bitches are in Colorado today and tomorrow.  They've got a full set of protest sites on their agenda, including some synagogues I used to attend, and oddly, the local Comedy Works.

It's against my religion to pray for something evil to befall them, but tempting.

Patriot Guard Riders

These Patriot Riders rock. Calm, professional, steady, dedicated, respectful. They come when/if the family invites them.

Standing up to evil wrapped in sacred trappings.

They don't care. Their position is that all problems are America's acceptance of gays, so everyone is responsible.

In January 2008, a small town near here laid to rest John Sigsbee. More than 2, 000 people filed past the casket of this popular young man, just 21.

Sigsbee joined the army just after high school and was sent to Iraq. He was sent back, though, when an explosion burned him over most of his body, to heal.

And heal he did. Then he went back to Iraq, where he was killed Jan. 16 during a gun battle, along with a few of his fellow soldiers, trying to liberate the Iraqi village of Bichigan. [That liberation was completed later in the week.]

Brigadier General Todd Semonite spoke at the funeral. He presented Sigsbee’s parents two medals awarded posthumously—Sigsbee’s second Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star for heroism in battle. Sigsbee was buried in the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

If only that were the whole story.

Sigsbee’s death also attracted the attention of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, who announced they would send members to the funeral to protest what they see as America’s permissive attitude toward gays, claiming God is killing our troops to punish us. This group carries signs and shouts slogans at military funerals such as “Thank God for dead soldiers.”

Thankfully they didn’t show—a group of 60 Patriot Guard Riders did instead, with plans to (after the family had safely entered the funeral) form a blockade between the Westboro protesters and the mourners, and if needed, shouting “God bless our troops!” and singing the national anthem.

“We got a lot of media…so our message got out,” explains a spokesperson for the Topeka group. Instead, they protested another military funeral at Camp LeJuene in North Carolina. Well, bullies do typically stand down when challenged.

Local clergy denounced the group, saying, “They’re not Christian,” and that they weren’t affiliated with local Baptist churches or the Baptist Conference.

But here’s my question.

I hear incessantly, year after year, “Christians” crying, “They’re stealing our Christmas!” just because someone wishes people “Happy Holidays,” or “This will destroy marriage!” when any concession to same-sex unions might appear.

Where were these “Christians” when this Kansas group undermined their faith? Local church groups should have been at the funeral too, ready to stand for something.

Thank God we at least have patriots.

RML, where did you get that pic?  303 is a Denver area code - I am unaware of any local churches that would put something like that on their marquee.

So much hate comes under the banner of religion.
And, while I am not American, I am greatful to the Patriot Guard Riders, for peacefully standing up to such stupidity.
I have friends in the Australian Army, and would wish the same for them in like circumstances.

Personally I don't have much tolerance for idiocy, so a bullet or 2 wouldn't go astray, in my opinion, particularly if it happend to take down a religious nutter or 2 along the way.
Regardless of the soil they stand on.

From Jews Killed Jesus .com, the link in the post.

And that link originates on Wetboro's home page, Westboro Baptist Church

Edited to add:

Just for the hell of it I called the number.  It is the House of Worship Pentecostal Church.  Their recorded message didn't give an address.

Youre far to nice K; I prefer something along the lines of "may the Lord bestow upon them the rightful fruits of their labours"

There can't be one single person with a brain in that organization. They are a waste of O2. They may oppose some of the things I oppose, but they are stupid to the point that if we were even found to agree on one point I could never consider them an ally. They are crass and without class to interfere with funerals and shit, especially when those corpses used to belong to people who were fighting to (ostensibly) protect their right to freedom of assembly and speech (dubious, but that is what a soldier believes usually). Their beliefs cannot respect the soldier's belief that he was fighting for the greater good ? That sounds like a hell of alot of hubris to me. To avoid flames I will quote from the movie Revervoir Dogs "I don't even know a Jew with the fucking balls to say some shit like that".

But I am due to actually go to a doc soon, and this is the first time in decades. If he tells me I only have a month to live I'll take that blaze of glory. Up until now the only target I could think of was Dees, and I coudn't even think of him. But this is much much better. If I am condemnned I will go join the Westboro Baptist Church. And then I will find some Arabs and see about ordering the Ronco home suicide bomber kit. Then "God" will punish them for being such assholes and motherfuckers at the same time. Yes, the perfect target. Absolutely.

If you knew me thirty years ago you would never believe I would take such a stance, but I grew up. These people have had plenty of time to grow up. They were either born fucking ignorant or they caught it at church. In either case, like real addiction it is only cured absolutely by death. Since Kevorkian is unavailable, Dr. Termy will have to fill in.

Please just consider this an expression of my position on this subject. They have a right to their opinions, but it has to stop somewhere. There are a hell of alot of people on this planet with whom I disagree, and quite a few I simply don't like. But if they don't fuck with other people there is no problem. My Dad's funeral was less than ten miles from the house, and he had been in the USAF. If these people showed up there I would have presented them with a bunch of lead because I could make it to the house and back within minutes. They would be dead, I would be in jail and my assault rifle would be in a locked room downtown. And that would be that. I am surprised that nobody has opened up on them so far. But give it some time. Sooner or later they will probably fuck with the wrong family and experience something they never have before.

When you kill someone you may get caught and spend the rest of your life, or a good part of it in jail, or you might be executed. But they are definitely dead forever.

How can any reasonable adult do what they do ? They claim to be people of God and they do this. And they say Gays in the military are the problem and what ? Are all the funerals they show up at for Gay dead soldiers or is it any soldier ? What's more the stupid fucks probably support unnessecary wars for that reason.

It is just too much, even for me.

If that church was humble, they would not protest.

If the recipients were humble- it would not bother them.

I am always dumbfounded when I see such hate.  Is this really what Jesus would do?

Oh Lordy it is hard to be humble.

"Is this really what Jesus would do"

Now there's a good question. He did throw the moneychangers out of the temple. He may have been humble in nature, but I doubt he coaxed them into leaving with a few kind and polite words. So I guess humility is not absolute.

Oh, and from what I recollect, the Jews did not kill Jesus. It was against their law so the had the Romans do it. Maybe the WBC should go fuck with the Pope. I wonder what would happen if they did.

Each moment that you sin- that is your killing of Jesus.

No one here is sin free.   We all share the burden.
