slvemike4u -> RE: Conservatives are going a little crazy with the lies (3/17/2010 2:03:46 PM)

Its way past ironic for willbeur to be posting on a thread whose OP states that conservatives are going a little crazy(is that like being a little pregnant?) with lies!

Archer -> RE: Conservatives are going a little crazy with the lies (3/17/2010 2:18:16 PM)

"Hello Allstate I need some auto insurance, oh and when we finish this policy writing I'll need to file a claim for the wreck I had last week."

"Hello State Farm I would like a home owner's policy, yes and while we're on the phone I want to file a claim for the Fire that burned the house down last month."

Those sound silly don't they.

So, why is it that Health Insurance is the only insurance policy that folks expect to cover a pre existing condition?

Because lots of people have medical conditions that won't kill them straight off. It's hardly rocket science, is it? Still let the health companies weasel out of paying for that, and it'll remove all the diabetics and epileptics from the gene pool, making America a much better place for all than those sorry European democracies that expects the taxpayer to foot the bill for keeping these lame ducks alive.

Health companies dont "weasel out" of anything. Other policy holders arent forced to subsidize those who didnt bother to have insurance previously. Health insurers are merely an intermediary between payer and doctor. There profit margins are tiny, almost as bad as grocers. If they approved even a small percentage of non-covered claims they would be underwater.

I'm not against covering folks who have conditions, I'm against calling it insurance and treating it as something entirely different.

Every Other Type of Insurance covers you for UNEXPECTED and extraordinary loss.

Only when it's Health Insurance do we expect it to cover regular expected doctor visits, and health expenses that are regular and recurring

Thats funny, thats exactly what my partner, former Canadian, says too. His mother waited 18 months to get a knee replacement, a day before the surgery she got bumped by someone with a "more urgent need", (ie she could walk despite the pain), and it would have been another 8-12 months. He brought her here and got it done.

We would like to thank you very much for that illuminating sketch of the inner workings of the insurance company.  Such knowledge is only known to a select few I am sure.
Since you have such deep and broad knowledge of the insurance companies maybe you will tell us what they do with the money that they are holding while waiting to make a payment?  Have they put it in a box and locked it in a vault? Have they invested it?
Oh waite I need to interject....what was it that we just bailed these asswipes out for...oh for making bad investments with someone elses money.
In short if you are going to shill for the company you should put it in your profile that you work for them.[b/]

Health insurance companies give us the option of getting them to subsidize our doctor's visits. You pay x amount into the premium monthly and you'll get a y amount off from the doctor's visit cost.

Ma'am recently found that one insurance company is willing to insure a person with a pre-existing condition so long as it's dormant. Meaning, they are on a probationary trial of insurance for 1 year. If at any point in time during that year, the person needs treatment for the pre-existing condition, the company may choose to drop the client. If after 1 year, there have been no instances of needing treatment for the pre-existing condition, then the insurance company will take the client on as if they had no previous medical history with the condition.

What this means is that individuals who have been in remission from cancer or are carriers of HIV (asymptomatic), for example, may actually be able to afford health insurance at a rate similar to "healthy" individuals.

If an individual company can cover this type of plan, why can't our government expect other companies to able to do so as well if it benefits the health status of the nation at large?

Just some food for thought....

See you next month.

In Leather,

boi

Really puzzled look on my face ... A Health insurance Company providing coverage for 'pre existing condition'(s). I think not. The insurance companies I know make every excuse NOT to insure the person.

You have mentioned a few times that you are not poor and that you have your own business.  It would follow that your partner would be in the same financial position.
So we have this guy who can afford to buy his mom anything she wants and he lets her suffer through a 18 month waiting period to get a free one and then when it becomes embarassing what a cheap fuck he is to let his mom suffer when he has the ability to stop that pain with nothing more than applying a pen to a check.  He then skips the line and brings his mom here and gets the operation.
For fucks sake man what do we have money for? Any problem you can buy your way out of is not a problem. And yet this man let his mother suffer for 18 months to save a few dollars he never even knew he had.
Shame on your friend and shame on you for having a friend like that.

You are usually more observant than that.
Didn't you tell us once that you had some background in accounting?
How does the insurance company figure its profit?  Does it factor in the investments? Aren't the investment sectors of ins. companies something like a subsidiary or some such.
I am an old phoque and I have been lied to by some of the best.  You can lie by omission just as well as by commission, you can cook the books with buy backs like the auditor found in AIG's books.  So the bottom line is not 4.4% so put that three legged horse back in the barn for some other rube.

Archer -> RE: Conservatives are going a little crazy with the lies (3/17/2010 3:14:05 PM)

Nope No accounting background other than the required class in college for a business minor that's a failing memory for you thompson.

Ah the old they must be cooking the books accusation without proof.

The statistic stands unless you provide a refuting statistic of their profit margin.

The margin is the margin the accounting principles have rules for how the profit margin is calculated, unless you have some proof that the entire industry's average has been cooked by some huge accounting cabal that works for the Health Insurance Industry and cooks the entire indiustry's books, the average profit margin for the Industry stands at 4.4% for the latest quarter.

Not so.  You can write an insurance policy for anything you want to.  Tons of
"extended waranty policies"
Medical insurance has been written for years for maintainance as have dental policies.
