Anyone else watching the Olympic Opening Ceremonies?

I just love all the pretty gals from all over the world.

And the dancing and the international goodwill and all that is great too.

i'm waiting for the minutes silence for the kid that died today while training.

Level -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 6:51:32 PM)

Yes, frazzle, that was pretty rough.

frazzle -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 6:53:12 PM)

Ok they all know the risks, but a little decorum wouldnt have gone a miss.

I'm sure it will be there. They need something more than a sign that's for sure.

What happened today is tragic - and my sincerest condolences go out to his family, friends and teamates - still, the games must go on.

Its worse than tragic, its the fastest course made, they knew there were probs, some of which were sorted. But a metal pole at a point where they could leave the track, instead of a barrier, is negligence. Ice hockey manages to erect see through barriers!!!

When is NHL suspended?

thishereboi -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 7:30:24 PM)

I totally agree. And the looks of wonder in their faces.

frazzle -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 7:34:05 PM)

sorry but what is NHL

KatyLied -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 7:36:04 PM)

U.S. hockey, it will be suspended so the players can play on their respective country's teams.  I was thinking the players would be in the opening ceremonies, but they were absent.

I think they said something about them getting their monday, but they may have been talking about something else. Not sure why they bother. Everyone knows Canada rules in hockey.[:)]

/thank you, I am watching but also doing things around the house and did not hear them talking about the hockey

frazzle -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 7:40:25 PM)

if they put every competitor in the opening ceremony it would go on for ever.

still wondering why thats of more concern, than the youngster who isnt going to appear again as he's dead

thishereboi -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 7:44:11 PM)

I'm pretty sure that all the competitors who are there, have already walked in. The hockey players are still playing and couldn't get there today. What does that have to do with the boy who died?

KatyLied -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 7:45:20 PM)

What would you have them do?  Cancel the olympics?  That does not seem feasible.  I"m sure many people are upset over his death.  But as a casual observer, it seems obvious that some of the sports are risky at best.

Well I hope your watching now cause this fiddler is very cool[:)]

KatyLied -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 7:55:57 PM)

Yes, watched it!  I love the warm universal feeling of the Olympics.  It is something special.

Oh, I don't Doubt that there will be lawsuits, - and possibly even criminal charges (not likely but possible) - but I'll leave that up to the apropriate officals.

Marc2b -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 7:59:13 PM)

So far so good. Well done Vancouver.

I love Celtic dancing - it is so diciplined yet energetic, and at times even primal, at the same time.

I have to admit, though, that while watching the shadow guy on the Moon I thought: Oh look, Batman is playing the fiddle and dancing a jig.
