Due to the timedifference i have to can all the stuff and watch it later so i just finished watching the opening ceremony. That's one thing I love about this particular Olympics - with only a three hour time difference I can watch many of the events live. quote:
I remember the last one in Italy and it was a marvel of tecnincal exellence. Luckily enough Canada choose not to try and overtrumph it but made a wonderfull show much more based on the human part. I loved the way they took the indigenous people to centerstage and the way they managed to convey the fact that Canada really is a melting pot for many kultures and people. The Salt Lake City Olympics also incorrporated Native Americans into it's opening show - unfortunately, they also brought Donny and Marie Osmond into it. Oh, well. Like I said, every show has to have at least one flub in it! quote:
All in all a truly remarkable and memorable show. Two solid thumps up for that one, and now let the icehockey begin. I am not rooting for Canada on that one Go Suomi go. I agree (about the show, not about the hockey - GO USA! [:)]). I've always loved the Olympic Opening shows. It give the locals a chance to promote what is positive about them and introduces the world to a culture they may know little about. The one that sticks in my mind the most is the Athens Olympics. That show was absolutely beautiful. I particularly liked the part where a runner went around a track representing previous Olympics - but stopped and dropped to one knee for those years the games weren't held due to wars. It was a stark reminder that the unity we seek - the unity that the Olympics seeks to promote - still eludes us. I am already looking forward to London's show.
