Ok, anyone else looking at that harness and thinking of things you could do with it?

Now I wish I paid a little more attention to the flying person.

Did'ja ever notice that every Olympic Opening Ceremony has at least one flying person in it? Sure seems that way.

What is it about Donald Sutherland's voice that makes it so cool?

ETA: If I was really rich, I'd hire Donald Sutherland to read poetry while I relaxed in a barcalounger, drank wine and ate cheese.

The harness was a loop around their waist, but they could flip horizontally and vertically. The possiblities are endless.

Yea, but I never get sick of it.

Yea he does have a good speaking voice, very relaxing.

I missed the opening ceremonies :(

My condolences to the family of that young man killed during luge practice. I hope they close that course as so many have had crashes there already.

Marc2b -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 9:22:03 PM)

Well, they just ended. Bummer about the torch thingy malfunctioning but just as every Opening Ceremony has to have at least one "flyer" it seems they have to have at least one flub.

Overall, an enjoyable three hours and I say again, well done, Vancouver!

heartcream -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 9:42:29 PM)

I have been kind of watching it. It has been on while I do some work here loading pictures from 35mm.

At times all the freaking clapping and cheering is annoying because I am not really paying attention. I do love that Olympiad feeling and the ancient history of it but something bugs me, in the same way Mc Donalds bugs me.

I am sorry for that luge kid, how horrible and horrifying for his family. That David Foster song is cool and annoying all the swelling chords and crashing symbols. Some of the footage is very gorgeous.

I am looking forward to the sports, all in all it is pretty awesome to witness.

This is an incredible, amazing, fantastic idea!  Just wow!!  [:D]

I missed the opening ceremonies today but watching the "replay" now, while waiting for Mr. Man to arrive.  I haven't seen anyone flying yet...

He'd be perfect for Emerson and Frost and probably Eliot as well, on a spring day in a park like setting with lots of trees. At night, in a room light only by a few candles, he'd be perfect for Poe.

They are all settled down now waving lights and KD Lang is killin Hallelujah.

juliaoceania -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 10:45:00 PM)

I do not watch sports, but I heard they were dedicating the opening ceremonies to the young man who lost his life.... nothing will bring him back, but that is quite a tribute to pay him, as nothing can bring him back and the Olympics must go on....

I thought it was pretty cool - and I'm not a big fan of K.D. Lang (I don't dislike her, just never really got into her).

heartcream -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/12/2010 11:59:20 PM)

For a big commercial thing I'd say she did great. I like the way Aaron Neville does that song.

Jeff Buckley Hallelujah

My favorite^^^version of this song

SDFemDom4cuck -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/13/2010 12:48:56 AM)

heartcream beat me to it. While the KD Lang version was good the Jeff Buckley version has always been a favorite of mine. One of those few songs that a cover is better than the original version in my opinion. Even if I do love Leonard Cohen.

I think every Olympic has it's snafu at some point. Others have had their tragedies as well.  I'm just hoping the ski venues get some snow here soon. Maybe they should truck some up from the Pa/Va/DC area for them.

I don't think they'll close down the luge run and I don't know when they are taking place and if that would give them any time to reconfigure. I'm sure they will do something to ensure that something as tragic doesn't repeat itself during the runs themselves. Obviously something needs done...but I don't know what can be reconfigured at this late date.

Overall it was pleasant.

KatyLied -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/13/2010 4:24:46 AM)

Jeff Buckley owns that song.

kiwisub12 -> RE: Opening Ceremonies (2/13/2010 7:30:09 AM)

Really enjoyed the two hours i watched - even though i could have done without the inane commentary - but then, i guess, it wouldn't be the olympics without it.

As for the young man that died- seems to me that every one of those atheletes could die doing what they do. I recently took care of a young man who was paralysed from the neck down - playing high school football (America). Should they stop every young man in America from playing because one ( yes, i know there are more) died. Oop , yes, this kid ended up dying. It was a tragedy, and everyone of us could die from getting in our car.
We can't stop death in every day life. People die from silly, trivial things. At least this kid died doing what he enjoyed, in a venue where his death might make a difference to the upcoming lugers.

Can you imagine how the artistic director felt - getting the chance to put on such a huge spectacle , in such a venue with such budget? I'm not sure he could ever top this in his life time. Talk about peaking!
