correct spelling oh well

when i entered this life 57 years ago i t was in the time when there was almost the hanky code it was illegal to practice this lifestyle openley and many were jailed here in canada for it . but in the end it prevailed and grew. it always existed and it seems now it is the new swinfgers club were kink is before lifestlye it is sad to see but it is what it is . many here talk of old guard what the hell is that im 56 mom was a slave wht is old guard nothing i ever heard of . but what i know is ther were those who were serrious and those who were no same as now

MAy I ask if there is a question attached to your story?
I agree....even in the last 10 years or so a lott vhanged. The lifestyle got more public. But everything changes, not?
I liked the more secret way also..and I am not even that old.

Over time, most things become mainstream. It is a good thing not a bad thing. Becoming free to live your life as you see fit isn't bad. I will say though that if you came into this "lifestyle" 57 years ago, that would mean you were BORN into it and that IS a bad thing.

I have tried living in a country where BDSM was supposedly non existent for puritanical reasons. I don't know if anybody did get jailed for it, but it was in no way socially aceptable. Is the new way better? I don't really know as i also did see the charms in the old ways.

Thank you for you post. Though i am in my late 50's i am relatively new to BDSM, however what you brought up I have often wonder about. Though not in this lifestyle, i have been in another that was and still is not really accepted-a witch. Since my mid 20's i have been a practicing witch, and then it was not something widely excepted. Then the internet came and many wanted to be witches..oh well. What i saw was they wanted the spells but didnt really live it as a religion. Because of my experience in observing this, it has come to my mind can this be true here in bdsm., since some call it not a lifestyle, while others say it is. i personally came to look at a D/s or M/s relationship more then just the kink.

I would be curious to see the posts on your thread, because this has interested me since i started BDSM 3 years ago. Looking back at my life in 'vanilla realm' i can see my late husband were D/s. or perhaps M/s minus the kink. We follow a lot of the bases of the older households, of the Victorian era. I was his to the end of his life.What he said stood as the foundation of our marriage.

Well, lots of cotton was involved, and there wasn't nearly as many secret handshakes as one would have thought.

Edited to add: kidding aside, it is interesting, hearing about how others dealt with D/s & kink, long ago.

OP, I'm at a loss why you post stating "I'm 57 and in my day..." It reminds me of Grandpa in The Simpsons.

I'm almost your age and live in the here and now. Try it - it's much better.

I don't think that many of us "modern folk" are able to physically handle the old ways..lol.

I knew many of the Old Guard. Gay leathermen who had been in WWII.

Actually I prefer the new ways. The hanky code was used for casual, indeed anonymous sex. It was rare for the same couple to stay together for months, yet alone years. I knew none among them who were monogamous and damn few who made it through disease free. Since they rarely stayed together, nobody ever knew their partners' friends, families, coworkers etc/

I'm in a new fangled relationship compared to the Old Guard I knew. We are monogamous, we have neither of us ever contracted a std, we have been together for years., we know each other's families, and we have friends together.

This works for me, that didn't. YMMV

I believe it orginated with the leatherman comming out of WW2. They were very protocol and service orintated. I don't know if they used military regs as their manafesto. They said jump, you said how how high. I don't know if they believed in hard limits or not, my guess is that those were limited, possibly non existant. They believed in honor, integrity were very principled. they are a dying breed, definitely not everyones cup of tea

when the old guard was young did the refer to themselves as the old guard?

the leather came about because after ww2 some bought surplus motorcycle and surplus leather jackets and flight gear to ride, they were the original leather men

"Old Guard" is a term invented by sex historians. "They" really did exist. However, the groups were not homogeneous, and there was no common set of protocols. Different groups treated collars differently, for example. So the "old ways" didn't exist as such, but militaristic gay violent sex clubs did. (As an aside, the term BDSM only goes back to 1993 or so; it's an online creation.) There are a lot of links, and good discussion, on this thread.
