Your post reminded me of a story I like to tell about my mother. She liked to go on rants about certain things & she would stay on a particular rant for sometimes months or even years. So for months I listened to her rant about people not controlling their cats & the cats coming into her yard all the time. I'd make the appropriate sympathetic noises & "tsk tsk's". Then one day I had finally had it with that particular rant & pointed out to her that she had cat bait in her yard, so of course they liked to come there. She huffed & said "What do you mean by 'cat bait'??" I pointed out to her that she grew catnip & had bird feeders. What cat wouldn't want to come in her yard??? LOL She grew the catnip for Mr. Cat who she treated like one of her grandchildren. She'd grow it, harvest it, dry it & bring him a brown shopping bag full of it!!

OMG, catnip and bird feeders? They must have been bait for cats from miles around!

I have gotten rid of my "cat magnets"--the feeding dishes I used to keep for Angel when she was outside. Even though my neighbor keeps his three outdoor cats well-fed, having food on my porch was attracting them into my yard, which in turn provoked Angel, which in turn led to shrieking scenes. I'm hoping there won't be anymore of those! So hopefully I have eliminated the only possible cause of Angel being an annoyance and no one will report her for being a nuisance!

I truly hope so. She deserves to relax in her own little outdoor space. And the reason that Mr. Cat was so easy to change was that he wasn't actually a cat, but a higher being in a cat suit who understood & spoke English. I have so many stories about him. I'm so fortunate that he chose to grace me with his presence for 14 years. He was probably in his 20's when he died & it was cancer. Who knows how long he'd have lived without that.

Wow, he lived into his 20's? That's amazing. Misty is 15 1/2 and I hope she lives that long. Angel is 5, and I wish that for her, too, but she's alot more problematic!

He was pretty amazing, considering he weighed 18 lbs most of his life. He wasn't actually fat either, just a big guy. We dubbed him Uncle Fat because we had a female who had kittens but wasn't a very good mother, so she'd take off & run around & he'd climb in the box & lie there letting the babies snuggle & suckle on his belly. He was a stray who appeared one day when I went out trying to find my own 2 cats who were on a jaunt. He came home & insisted on moving in with me. At the time, the vet thought he was between 4 & 7, which kind of surprised me because he just didn't move much. I'd thought he was much older than that. Every now & then, he'd get a bug up his butt & run around the house & my daughter & I would flatten ourselves up against the walls. LOL

How nice that you got to share your life with that special guy for 14 years!

I know what you mean about strays. Both Misty and Angel appeared on my door step one day and never left! One cold fall morning I almost tripped over poor Misty on my way out the door to go to work. She was a tiny, starving little thing who showed up on my door step. Angel came running out of the bushes frantically the day before Memorial Day in 2010 as I was bringing groceries from the car to the house. She was hardly starving and was actually on the pudgy side, so I was very surprised no one claimed her. I have never seen a more panic-stricken cat in my life. I still don't know what happened with her and probably never will.

Each time, I put up flyers, ran ads in the paper, talked to all the neighbors, and no one stepped forth to claim either one of them. I'd still like to get my hands on Angel's previous owner and strangle him or her. Misty's too, if they abandoned her. And while we're on that subject, I'd also like to get my hands on whoever abandoned my "foster-son" Dusty, who now lives with my neigbor. He showed up under the tree in my yard in 2009, skinny as a rail.

Now they're inside, listening to the fireworks outside, and wondering what the hell is going on.

Mine are engaging in a game of chase.. which, living in a trailer, sounds like a stampede of elephants *sigh*

Summer developed the habbit to hide upstairs....now two nights in a row she freaked me out with running along up there when I so don't expect her to be there...

So- I had a quick errand to do this morning.  I decided to bring the cat along.  She meowed the whole time...but was pretty good riding in the car.

Awww, thats cute, love it when kitties have so much fun. I am sure they are a hoot to watch!
My first boyfriend would play tag with the cat we had, running up and down the hallway and around the fireplace, playing and laughing like he was a little kid.

Oh dear.. I hope that doesnt happen very often. Perhaps you should try to distract them by playing with some string or toy they can chase and play with instead..
my cats used to love a thick stiff string with a fluffy bit on the end and rolled up balls of paper..

it DOES happen often, sadly.  and if I try to distract.. whoever gets distracted is shoved aside by the other.. can we say "competitive siblings"/  even though they are in no way blood related.. *sigh*

and a friend of mine in Myrtle Beach wants me to take on an infant (about 6 wks old at this point....)

Yes, kittens as sooooo cute... very hard to resist. I am sure your friend will find a good home & servant for the little fur ball.

I so wish that I could afford more cats, but I can't really afford the 2 I have. I'd love to have a little kitten again. But these are the ones who chose me, so I couldn't argue with them. When you are chosen, argument is futile. When Mr. Cat decided to move in with me, we argued for 3 weeks. Finally, I closed all the doors & windows in my house & proceeded to wait him out. It started raining & he just laid down on the bow of the boat in the back yard & didn't move for 3 days til I finally gave in. And he ended up being the best friend I ever had in my whole life. People who hated cats would come in the house, go directly to him & pet him & say that he was different. And he was. I was so blessed to have him in my life. If I could write, I'd write a book about him, because I have 14 years' worth of stories about him.

My Squeek was my best friend too, he was the first cat that was really mine, in that we were connected to each other. I cried every single day for a month after he died. Yes, I could write tons about him too. TC was a great cat too but totally different personality. TC helped me thru Squeeks death. I miss them both.
I love cats, I love their personalities. I would love to have cats again, but I cant do that until I have a home where I will stay for a while... So, for now, I must live vicariously thru others..
