MainFragger -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (5/1/2009 11:30:24 PM)

I've been going every other year. But unless I find a decent job this year, I might actually miss my second year in a row. The last time I went and hoped a company I had worked for on some other conventions would get me in for free, and set me up with a room. They got me a free pass for helping out on setting up. But he refused to put me in a room because he insisted only 2 people per room and everyone was already doubled up. So I had to leave a day early because I ran out of money. I wasn't happy.

I keep tryinig to find ways of getting to go with vendors or business people or setting up my own booth to get into the convention and be able to afford a room.. But I've had mixed success on that.. Anyway, didn't mean to hijack this thread... Back to our regularly scheduled perversions...

Erm, I've never been an Anne Rice reader, tried a number of times, but . . . . Saw the movie, liked it, but I like silly comedies which is what I took it as . . .. . Pretty sure I watched it after I was 'out of the fetish closet' . . ...

I didn't start consuming BDSM porn until after I'd started identifying as 'kinky' . . . . .

The single media item that probably did more to wrench my closet door open was reading 'Post-Porn Modernist', by Annie Sprinkle. Which must have been about 10 years ago . . . . .

Tho' the closet-door started drifting open a coupla years before that when I was reading 'Angry Women', by Andrea Juno & V. Vale . . . . . & came across Ms. Sprinkle thataways . . . . . . & some of the stuff that Diamandia Galas was talking about, & . . . . *shrugs* . . . . For some reason, that book opened a bunch of stuff up for me . .. . .

My dad rented it years and years ago because he thought it was a 'regular' comedy and, ya know, Dana Delanay is hot.  He didn't pick out any more movies after that. Ackward.

MarsBonfire -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (5/3/2009 8:19:45 AM)

I have to agree with the majority here:
The movie sucked. Pretty to look at, sure. But they turned an honestly erotic romance into the cinematic equivilent of a Disney "Dexter Riley" comedy. I mean, comon... a diamond heist subplot? WTF? I kept expecting Cesar Romero to show up as Mr. Hawk...

Now, the book on the other hand... I own a first edition harback of it, and was lucky enough to have Anne sign it for me at a book event. I must re-read it every couple of years or so. Although it wasn't the book that "influenced me" into being part of BDSM (I think that goes much, much father back in my childhood than when I could actually read) it did say one thing about BDSM that I really needed to hear however: that even though you are a pervert, you can still find love amongst the paddles and cuffs. It isn't all just superficial game playing.

I hate to keep dragging DragonCon back into this, but I remember being there one year, and somoene turned and said to me (While holding Interview with a Vampire) "Can you believe she use to write porn?".. I looked him dead in the eyes and coldly said, "Yes". I like vampire stories, but the whole homoerotic aspect of the Anne Rice vampires didn't appeal to me. I kind of lost interest in her as a writer after that..

I have been tempted to read her version of "Sleeping Beauty".. but I have too many things I want to read piling up compared to things that are curiosities..so I haven't gotten to it.

Do you mean the beauty series? I read it and felt it was complete crap.

Well, since you don't have to twist my arm hard to not read Anne Rice to begin with, I'll take your word on it, and now its not even a curiosity. Thanks for saving me the time.

What about 9 1/2 weeks ? Exit of Eden was cute and was a way to get vanilla people exposed to BD.

stripmale -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (5/25/2009 7:28:12 AM)

Rosie O'Donnell killed off most of the enjoyment factor for me.  The only saving grace for me was Iman in latex acting all Dommee to a couple of male subs.

When i was young i always wished i was Pugsley being tortured by Wednesday in the Adams family.

slavekal -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (5/25/2009 9:39:32 AM)

They fu#*ed it up royal.  They should have stuck with the original story from the book, not added any cops or "comedy".  Should have avoided big name stars and huge salaries.  The movie only grossed about six million bucks.  It probably cost forty million to make.  They should have gone small budget, limited release, and made a small profit on something they could have been proud of.
