HeavansKeeper -> The Movie "Exit to Eden" (4/18/2009 1:08:08 PM)

Exit to Eden was a comedy about cops busting bad guys who happened to be in a BDSM fantasy island.

Three people I know (who do not know each other) have an interest in BDSM, and list this as a strong icon in their discovery of their lifestyle. Sometimes it was what gave their "weird childhood likes" a title. For others, just an eye opener.

I'm curious to see if anyone here feels the same. If you don't, feel free to share what solidified your interests (if applicable).

The book it was sort of based on was written by Anne Rice. The book was much better than the movie, as the producers changed the plot almost entirely http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exit_to_Eden.

To answer your question, in the mid nineties I was on a school trip, and we watched an episode of "Real Sex" filmed at a Dungeon in New York.  I had always had weird feelings, but during the course of the show, I just knew.

To this day, I have been unable to find that specific episode. I would love to see again.

Except it had Rosie O'Donnell in it as one of the cops pretending to be a Domme.

That pretty much killed it for me right there. [:D]

I was already in my 20's when that movie came out so I was long past the point of it being influential. Plus it was awful. Sorry to those that liked the movie but I thought it was simply awful. The book was better.

The Addams Family is what warped me, I was aroused by the dark eroticism between Gomez  and Morticia. I learned to read from 'The Ghastlycrumb Tinies' by Edward Gorey. So it is no wonder I turned out a wee bit odd.

Oh this is great!! It has the whole alphabet animated. Yay Gorey fun.

I actually came across the lifestyle through a vanilla dating site.  One of the men looked interesting and said he was into D/s.  I wrote to him and asked what that meant.  I was living in Italy at the time and he became my online mentor.  He taught me a lot though I eventually broke off the relationship because I needed someone who would actually touch me.  We've kept in touch and are still friends, though.

Once I learned more about BDSM I realized that my marriage had basically been a Master/slave relationship but with few benefits for me.  I served out of fear of his anger.  Now that I know what it is like to find true fulfillment from serving and the incredible trust built in the relationship I would never go back to anything less.

I have the movie and I love it,its a cute comedy.
It has some good ideas for using submissives, like house painting..LOL

SlaveBlutarsky -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (4/18/2009 4:11:27 PM)

I continued in this lifestyle in spite of the movie :) I would fully agree that it was horrid. It did, however, prompt me to go out and buy the book. I still remember the look on the cashier's face at Barnes and Noble when she rung me up. I think she read it too. [:)]

DiurnalVampire -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (4/18/2009 4:14:40 PM)

The movie was awful, but so ridiculous that it was funny. I would suggest those who havent seen it see it, for the comedic value. I had one guy I knew ask me if I was "like Rosie in that movie". I said no, but was laughing so hard at the image that I nearly cried.

lighthearted -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (4/18/2009 5:04:10 PM)

there is a moment in the movie when the actress who is the Domme in charge (forgot her name) has her slave at her feet...you get a flash of her being in command over him.  I think that is the only "real" bdsm moment in the movie.

the book of course is another story.  improbable, but wouldn't it be fun [;)]

Armchair50 -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (4/18/2009 6:20:08 PM)

The book was probably the first bdsm piece of literature I ever read.  A real turn on.  (In hindsight, however, my enjoyment of cracking that whip while dressed up in my black Zorro costume when I was a litle kid should have told me something.)

I thought the lighthearted treatment of the book by the movie was nearly sacrilegious.  But I saw it a second time on TV and was able to laugh and enjoy the movie for the sometimes silly romp it attempts to be

And yes, it would be fun.  Sign me up. . .

That would be Dana Delaney, who I've had an off the charts fetish with since that scene :)

I've always wondered if she's a closet Domme in real life!

GreedyTop -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (4/18/2009 7:06:36 PM)

Dana is HAWT!!

Loved the book... HATED the movie

littlesarbonn -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (4/18/2009 7:19:13 PM)

All of the scenes with Dana were done well. It was like they added another movie on top of the movie that had Dana Delaney in it. The book was actually the scenes that were specifically Dana Delaney and the slave who comes to the island. Everything else was added as an afterthought and had zero connection to the book whatsoever.

kuriouswitch -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (4/18/2009 7:30:45 PM)

i hated the movie, turned the entire book (which is lovely) into a farce.

I myself read the book when i was 10, but I identified more with the Main female, the Head of the island and a Domme at teh time more than I did as a submissive.

Cuffkinks -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (4/18/2009 7:44:33 PM)

I liked the book. I thought it was pretty hot. The movie however...Other than a BDSM island theme, the book and the movie had nothing in common. On a lighter note, it was a better BDSM movie than "The Pet." But, that's not saying much.

SnowRanger -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (4/18/2009 9:57:00 PM)

Dana was hot in that movie!  That's for sure.  I read that she did research for the role by attending a few BDSM sessions.

She now is one of the "Housewives" so I don't think that the role or the research took.

Ditto

It was Return of the Jedi that did it for me. I must have been all of four at the time when I said oooohhhhh I want one of those.

MsConception -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (4/18/2009 10:51:56 PM)

Sharon Stone was supposed to play the part that Rosie wound up playing, and she had a scheduling conflict. Supposedly the original script was much closer to the book, then when Sharon Stone had to back out, they decided to take it a less dark route, and cast Rosie, and re-wrote most of the script.

AngelGeena -> RE: The Movie "Exit to Eden" (4/18/2009 10:55:51 PM)

I thought the movie was a riot but it had nothing to do with leading me this direction.
