Said spawn is still early on at high school and earns around fifty pounds each saturday trading computers he refurbed and built from bits left over from his big brother's business. When each of my spawn arrived I put all the money I had at the time for thier college/university fees into long term savings, and it's from that that he bought me my beloved Mazda. Each of them earns their own money, apart from this one getting sticky fingered, and they all make me very happy.
I did something quite stupid when I was in my teens and wrecked any chance of a sensible career, so I went into the Royal Marines and things just got madder until I left and got married and things slowed to a rapid blur.
My old man beat me a lot, it was nothing personal, he just didn't like me.
I just took the money back and made him buy me a safe.
I agree completely with the lecture on property issues though, left it to his mum, she really knows how to bend an ear.

Ven, thanks, this thread makes me remember a lot of them!
That guy Dominick was the more malevolent of the two between him and Mario.
Mario was a pretty average unimposing guy while Dominick was about 6' 2" 250 lbs with black hair plastered with Brylcream or whatever he put in it and always a pair of black rimmed thick glasses. He looked like someone that you wouldn't want to mess around with that's for sure!
In cooler weather he always wore his black leather jacket, in warmer weather one of those white shirts that the gangsters wore. It was like he was in "uniform" or something.
One sunday afternoon I'm working in the store with about 6-8 customers in line and his Caddy pulls up and he comes charging into the store and starts SCREAMING at me; "Hey! Are you fuckin' stupid or what!"
I said, "what!?"
He goes off right in front of all those people in line like they wearn't even there; "HOW MUCH DID YOU GIVE THAT FUCKIN' CUNT YESTERDAY!?"?"
I remembered that his wife Rose came in and *told me* to give her $40 out of the cash register.
Somehow he found out about it.
He went balistic on me!
"If that no good fuckin' cunt comes in here again don't give her anything you fuckin' understand me!"
"I'm gonna get rid of that fuckin' cunt anyway!"
A guy in line started laughing and I started to laugh too and he says, "Oh? You think it's fucking funny, you want me to jump over that counter and wipe that smile off your face?"
"I'll break every bone in your fuckin' body!"
"You fuckin' capeche, NO MORE MONEY TO THAT FUCKIN' CUNT!!!"
"You're a real ASSHOLE!"
And he stormed out.
The people in line were like; "who the hell was that!"
But, of course Dominick had plenty of girlfriends!
Another time he pulled up and I was out front scattering rock salt on the sidewalk so people wouldn't slip.
He gets out of the Caddy and starts yelling at me; "Hey Schtubile! WTF are you doing, working for the city now?"
I tried to explain that I was putting salt on the sidewalk so that customers wouldn't slip and fall.
He says; "FUCK THE CUSTOMERS!"
"Let 'em fall on their asses, what the fuck do I care?"
"Put some tape back on that FUCKIN' bag and put it back on the shelf you asshole!"
"That bag's comming out of your pay!"
If he was pissed at you he'd always say, "Hey! Are you fuckin' stupid?"
Guys like Dominick really couldn't hide any money in their houses with a wife like his. He must have hid it in his Caddy or something.
If Mario and Dominick had just stayed away from the track (Suffolk Downs aka "Suffering Downs") they would have had plenty of money for girlfriends and partying!
A few times one of them would win a "bundle" at the track and they'd dissapear for a few days and the wife would be calling the store looking for them.
"Nope, haven't seen him!"
A lot of guys in that generation had grown up during the depression and didn't like or trust banks.
Plus they didn't want the IRS poking around in their affairs so everything was "off the books" with them. Everything was done in cash.

no. Wedon't keep lots of actual money around but we have a ton of potential money, with sacks and sacks of Soda can and cases and cases and cases of water bottles.

People might scoff at how much you'd get back from doing that, but the last two times we made 40 dollars, and it was enough to more than pay for a Dinner at the Olive garden.

A few questions...

Do all the people claiming to have significant money in the house getting more hits on their profile?

Are the people keeping a lot of cash at home the same people referenced in the 'Gun Lovers' thread?

Are spouses of defrocked Nigerian diplomats flocking to your door?

I am not really interested if they are getting more hits or not, although that is a good question. My primary concern is addresses, where do they live and how can I get there.

Oh and if they are in the gun lovers thread, that might be important too.

Laughing..........It is rather like advertising to be robbed isn't it.

Although, this being the internet and all, I take both the claims of large quantities of cash or whatever, and the claims of guns (aka big dick substitutes) with many many grains of salt.

I have an over active imagination and you would not believe the alternate realities I imagine for some online personalities.

I just lurve my safe...  bought it for the guns, but its way more useful than that.  Not telling what's in it.  Besides guns.  But the punk-ass burglars are welcome to the change jar on my dresser, which has maybe $50 in it.  God help em if they break in when I'm home though.  Not all the guns are in the safe.

Nope, no cash, I live hand to mouth. It has occured that perhaps having cash at home is a good idea given what is happening, but then again, who said cash is going to be of any use if things get totally out of hand. What I do have is confidence in my skills and tools. I also keep fishing equipment which gets regular use and provides a meal or two.

Weapons, well this is Blighty, we are not allowed to have them, but if really pushed, I am skilled in sword, catapult and sling, all of which I have here, oh, a shield too, it itself a formiddable defensive weapon in skilled hands, a veritable mailed fist. Oh I am crackers enough to have worn the mail hauberk on occasions. But weapons and all that is paranoia, not so much reality.

Money is only effective if one can buy something, i.e, someone wants promissory notes issued by a bank, I have long since decided cash is only a necessity in a civilised functioning society, skills are more important and skills even in a civilised functioning society, as one does not need cash to live.

I have a safe, but there is nothing in it.
