Different folk have different ways of talking.  Master and i use Upper and lower case when Wwe write, but i know this annoys the crap out of some... Third person speak does not work for Uus, but then i sometimes say "Your slave" when talking to Sir...

Dunno lol!  Whatever rocks your boat!

slaves (outside gorean lifestyle) also talk in 3rd person. To show..they have no "I"or "me"...no personality...but that they belong to someone else as property.
A gorean slave can talk in first person..unless her Master demands her to talk as a slave (3rd person)

not everyone does the speaking in the 3rd person and/or using that I/i slashy thingee. i know i don't because Daddy didn't place any speech protocols in our relationship. the same goes for my relationship with my pet.

personally, speaking as a 3rd person or using the slashy talk on the forums demeans me as a person.

Some slaves think it's submissive. "This slave does the dishes."
Some dominants think it's dominant. "Master69sexy4u does the dishes!"
Just a sign how different things work for different people differently-pretty much the motto of the lifestyle (though, of course, we could never agree on a motto).

I think its largely an internet based thing however I have met people who use third person in real life but it depends on the situation, its just a relationship protocol whatever works for the relationship dynamic

It depends, some chatsites and forums ask you to use it or S/slashy speak, you just have to read the rules, if you dont want to do it then do as i fdo and avoid sites like those

Why is that the first assumption that is made in regards to slaves/submissives who speak in 3rd person? All of the Goreans that I know in real life do NOT practice this online or in person. Hell, if you check the boards right here, you would find that many of the kajira do not speak in 3rd person; nor do many of the owners condone such speech.

In regards to the OP...3rd person speech is mostly used in chatrooms as a means of distinguishing slaves/submissives from others in the room.
In places outside the chatrooms; it used primarily as a means of helping the slave/submissive to focus on their role ( being a slave/submissive ), effectively removing the "I" , and "me" from their vocabulary.
Of course, not everyone uses 3rd person speech for this reason, but it is the main reason for use.

I've mentioned this before, but I treat 3rd person speech as a form of discipline -- it can be very artful when done properly, and requires that each word spoken be carefully considered (when done properly). 3rd person speech blurs the lines between individual existence and the defined state under which one lives. Properly done, it can change an individual's way of looking at hir life, and reinforces the state of servitude in a way that is both personal and artistic.

One thing that 3rd person speech does require is a good grasp of English grammar. It pains me to say that there are a dwindling pool of individuals any more who are skilled in English grammar, or at least a dwindling pool of individuals skilled enough to be capable of managing the intricacies of consistently speaking in the 3rd person.

Some slaves do it simply because their masters require it. Some masters require it because they feel it gives the slave awareness. Some slaves are able to speak in the third person quite eloquently; some butcher it quite painfully. Then again, it is not a use of language that we typically grew up with, and I would imagine, just like picking up an instrument to learn for the first time, the slave is not going to sound like a symphony from the get-go.

Typically when threads like this one occur, and they do from time to time, most who respond to it do so to criticize the practice. Maybe the masters who require their slaves to speak in the third person do so to teach them to gracefully handle such a prejudice within the community.

There are as many reasons for why people practice this way of speaking as there are for doing anything else that pleases the master. The main answer to "Why does a slave _________ ?" is, "Because it pleases the master."

There is no universal rule. What pleases one master might appall the next, and so on. If it floats your boat, hop in! If it doesn't...well...don't!!

I'm not hung up on it.  I consider anything short of "You SOB" to be respectful.

NOTHING is carved in stone. All you can do is what your Dominant asks you to do. Usually it is agreed upon during negotiations. At least, it is for me.
