ORIGINAL: LadyLupineNYC As some one who actually does emergency planning for a living I can tell you that I would believe 500,00 body bags (but I don’t actually think that is true, that maintain a much smaller stock pile and have done so for years). As for the number? Pandemic influenza would be the most likely culprit for mass casualties in the US over a short period of time(this needing a major stockpile. If you are so worried, there are many wonderful sites out there aimed at helping you prepare for disasters of all kind. So get a ‘go bag’ together, stay informed, and be ready. I can go on a half hour's notice. Most of the same gear I use for camping, plus a chain saw for making a semi-permanent shelter. Extra bedding. Several rolls of duct tape, and several more rolls of plastic sheeting. Rain gear, warm clothing, medical supplies, batteries. Spare gas cans. The Winchester .308, the Colt .45, the .357, the .22 for small game, and one of the 12 gauges for birds. Anywhere from 100 to 300 rounds for each weapon, all safely stocked in the bottom compartment of the gun cabinet with a gym bag ready to stuff them into. Fishing gear. Vitamin supplements, freeze-dried food, gatorade mix. Packs of vegetable seeds, replaced with new seeds every year. And so forth. However long it takes to pack the car is how long it would take to get on the road, and I know exactly where I'm going; 300 miles north of here on the Canadian border. Someone else can use my plastic coffin; I don't plan on needing it.
