"Because the slave's consent is permanent and all-encompassing, the concept of abuse within an absolute M/s relationship becomes meaningless. Anything that happens is entirely justified by the simple fact that the owner wants it to happen."

This is not only bull - it's dangerous bull. You can't undo abuse by simply defining it away. And to tell an abused slave that s/he must endure more of it, because it is "justified" to abuse a slave is either misunderstanding the concept or deliberately misusing it. Total Power Exchange has two sides to it - total submission demands total responsibility. And in a relationship that is based on responsibility abuse has no place.

Just my two Euro-cents,
S.

Hmmm...

So far....nearly everyone who has responded with praise and positivity for the post has then gone on to pat themselves on the back for being in the "absolute" category.

I don't know what that means....just throwing it out there.

One of the main problems with the essay for me is that it's not clear what kind of piece he's actually trying to write.  If you're going to start your essay with the line

Nowhere but in BDSM is quite so much personal opinion passed off as irrefutable fact.

that's going to lead to certain assumptions being made.  Ok, possibly expecting it to take the form of an academic paper is unrealistic.  But to say that, then go into an essay full of unsubstantiated assertions, strikes me as somewhat strange.  On top of that, I see absolutely no evidence that he's so much as considered the possibility of confirmation bias, despite quite how high a risk that is in an essay of this nature.

If someone wants to write an opinion piece, I'm absolutely fine with that.  Equally, if someone's aim is to create a good quality intellectual provocation, I'll applaud it.  But don't do that and affect an air of objectivity at the same time.
