subtee -> An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 8:58:23 AM)

Below is a link to an email from a Wasilla, AK citizen, active and interested in city business, well-acquainted with Sarah Palin. The email was written for the author's friends and family who had asked for her impressions of the former mayor.

"Crosscut, a Seattle-based online journalism site, is among those who have picked up the e-mail. Publisher David Brewster, who was e-mailed the letter by a friend, said he was struck by Kilkenny's tone and her first-hand experience from attending city council meetings while Palin was mayor.
"Here's a person who didn't just jet in and talk to three people on one day, but has been in the town and watched it very carefully," he said.
The letter also lacked the strident tone many adopt, he said.
"It didn’t have a sort of prosecutorial throw everything at her (Palin) tone," he said. "It was kind of an ordinary citizen activist trying to be fair and trying to be candid."

What are your thoughts?

So she's an economic illiterate, a hypocrite and a back stabber. That just about sums up rightwing politicians.

pahunkboy -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 9:44:27 AM)

small towns can be very "tiff driven"  a grudge held for years, even a few generations.

How reassuring [&:] .

You are, of course, talking about the writer of the email.

She's the town busybody, btw.

This is true and I know that from personal experience. However, the email didn't seem to me to come from a long-held grudge or a tiff that the author wouldn't let go. As David Brewster from the journalism site said, it seemed she was trying to be fair and candid.

Hardly. They're not all illiterate.

Ad hominen against someone you know next to nothing about? Surely you can do better than that.

My first thought?  She specifically said...

It appears someone decided to ignore that.

Aside from that, I'm pretty amazed that Sarah is as well-loved, popular, and has the high approval rating that she does, if the author's claims are indeed truthful and unbiased.  Seems there's a disconnect somewhere between Ms. Kilkenny's opinion and the majority of Alaska's population.

Yes it's all over the Internet and she's been interviewed by major media and has given her permission to post it to the Anchorage Daily News.

It's ironic. She's the maverick anti-earmark trailblazer but she managed to get $27 million for Wasilla, population around 5-6000 at that time. That can make one popular. Next she rejected "the Bridge to Nowhere"(after she was for it), but kept the hundreds of millions of federal money for it. That could be a popular decision.

But she did sell that corporate jet on ebay...wait....I guess not.

However she certainly fired her executive chef! ...Oops.

I agree there is a disconnect. From the truth.

So, you believe that either the majority of Alaskans who support and approve of Ms. Palin are either gullible and uninformed, or they are greedy?

Interesting.

subtee -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 10:37:35 AM)

Well, I don't know, those are your words. Which do you think?

I know ironic, that the population of her small town almost doubled while she was mayor.

I think you are missing the real reason she is popular, forget the spending cuts, or selling the jet, or firing the personal chef.  She actually did what she said she was going to do, oh and sent out refund checks of $1200 to each citizen while still having a budget surplus.

Just minor shit, I know.  Let's burn her at the stake.[8|]

kittinSol -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 10:56:20 AM)

Palin is on the Dark Side of the Farce. A person has to be evil to wear her hair up like that (I won't even mention the glasses: brrrr).

That would indeed make her popular, wouldn't it?

"Let's burn her at the stake."  Really? Is this an intelligent or appropriate or even creative interjection to a post that asks for your opinions? Why you folks gotta put words in others' mouths?

Thadius -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 10:59:41 AM)

The last line was an attempt at sarcasm... Guess it was a poor attempt at that.

subtee -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 11:04:46 AM)

Yeah, I get sarcasm...just.

Wouldn't like things to get personal.

You know what I mean, Baldy McBalderson? [;)]

kittinSol -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 11:13:45 AM)

Tee, this is a little troubling (from the letter you linked):

"Fourth, she has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100 or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah's attempt at censorship."

If she is indeed the kind of person that bears a grudge and ill-feelings towards those that disagree with her, she's in for a tough ride - and I hope she can take the dissent, because there's going to be a lot, within her own party especially.

subtee -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 11:18:28 AM)

I agree and yet...she put it in the email. And she praises Palin for some of her characteristics and for some of her accomplishments. As Treasure pointed out, she didn't intend for this to become public, it was for her friends and family who had asked her informed opinion. Certainly they would also know her character and appreciate this admission.

Thadius -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 11:18:33 AM)

Kittin,

The line you quoted, who does that speak more about the Gov or the person that wrote it?  The lady is stating that she believes the Gov has hated her since '96.  That suggests a bit of a motive for the letter to me.
