So she's an economic illiterate, a hypocrite and a back stabber. That just about sums up rightwing politicians.

You are, of course, talking about the writer of the email.

She's the town busybody, btw.

Firm

...And how ARE things up there in Alaska, Firm? I didn't realize you were a resident of "FrozenMooseDick" whence Palin comes from.

All this says is that there are issues and rumors about Palin... and they need to be either confirmed, or laid to rest, ASAP.

Yes it's all over the Internet and she's been interviewed by major media and has given her permission to post it to the Anchorage Daily News.

It's ironic. She's the maverick anti-earmark trailblazer but she managed to get $27 million for Wasilla, population around 5-6000 at that time. That can make one popular. Next she rejected "the Bridge to Nowhere"(after she was for it), but kept the hundreds of millions of federal money for it. That could be a popular decision.

But she did sell that corporate jet on ebay...wait....I guess not.

However she certainly fired her executive chef! ...Oops.

I agree there is a disconnect. From the truth.

I know ironic, that the population of her small town almost doubled while she was mayor.

I think you are missing the real reason she is popular, forget the spending cuts, or selling the jet, or firing the personal chef.  She actually did what she said she was going to do, oh and sent out refund checks of $1200 to each citizen while still having a budget surplus.

Just minor shit, I know.  Let's burn her at the stake.[8|]

Seems no matter what, popularity rests on money. Always follow the money. I wonder how much of that $1,200 was oil royalty money.

She left the city with a surplus ? So it was the state that has that $22 million deficit ? Could be disqualifying as a small govt. fiscal conservative. But then, that's what they do  now (borrow and spend) and still call themselves conservative.

I am waiting for some prime interviews but I understand they (repubs) won't let her. Has anybody heard the same ?

Kittin,

The line you quoted, who does that speak more about the Gov or the person that wrote it?  The lady is stating that she believes the Gov has hated her since '96.  That suggests a bit of a motive for the letter to me.

Possibly - but even if the dislike is mutual, it doesn't take away that Palin believes in revenge too.

Shall we likewise confirm "issues and rumors" about Obama?

Do the Democrats really wish to go there? Somehow I think even Obama has more sense than that.

Well, I don't know, those are your words. Which do you think?

What I think is exactly what I originally said.  Something isn't quite right when Ms. Kilkenny's opinion based on the information she presented appears to be so radically different than such a large number of other Alaskans.

Perhaps I didn't understand your point correctly.  Your comments seem to convey that perhaps Ms. Palin's popularity was due to either obtaining large sums of money for first Wasilla, then Alaska, or because those who support her don't know the truth.  Was there some other meaning behind what you said?

Thadius -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 11:34:32 AM)

ABC will be traveling with her starting tomorrow with 2 interviews scheduled for Thursday and free access over the weekend.  I guess the flood gates will open from there.

LaTigresse -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 11:38:19 AM)

Personally I think her biggest support group are going to be uninformed right wing "Walmart mom" types. Just based upon the crowds that are going to her appearances.

All that "you go girl!" mindless, sheeple following. They would be doing the same thing if it was Britney Spears.

Sara is the celeb flavour of the moment.

The problem is for the republicans, alot of those Walmart moms tend to be noticebly absent in the voting booth. They just like going to ogle celebs.

Hippiekinkster -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 11:39:26 AM)

From Wikipedia:
" As of the 2000 census, its population was 5,469, but the 2007 estimate gives a population of 9,780.[1] However, the city itself gives a figure (as of 2008) of only 7,025 residents."

A 28% increase is hardly doubling. At any rate, it's a bedroom community of Anchorage. Houses are cheaper.

celticlord2112 -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 11:41:11 AM)

Hmmm...dismissing Governor Palin as "celeb flavor of the moment."

Now where have we heard THAT before?

And what I said was exactly what I originally meant; large sums of money for a city and a state might indeed make a politician popular. No more, no less.

It must be easy to prove is this correct. If it is it sounds like tax and spend to me, that wont sit well McCains plan to cut both spending and taxes will it.

Below is a link to an email from a Wasilla, AK citizen, active and interested in city business, well-acquainted with Sarah Palin. The email was written for the author's friends and family who had asked for her impressions of the former mayor.

"Crosscut, a Seattle-based online journalism site, is among those who have picked up the e-mail. Publisher David Brewster, who was e-mailed the letter by a friend, said he was struck by Kilkenny's tone and her first-hand experience from attending city council meetings while Palin was mayor.
"Here's a person who didn't just jet in and talk to three people on one day, but has been in the town and watched it very carefully," he said.
The letter also lacked the strident tone many adopt, he said.
"It didn’t have a sort of prosecutorial throw everything at her (Palin) tone," he said. "It was kind of an ordinary citizen activist trying to be fair and trying to be candid."

What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are that "hell hath no fury like a woman spurned".  Well..let me change that...."Hell hath no fury like a "democrat spurned".  Anne Kilkenny is a democrat whose oxen (or moose) was gored by Palin and is just a tiny bit "bitter".
Palin holds a popularity rating of 80%, the largest percentage of any Governor in the USA, it still leaves part of that 20% that might see the nomination of Sarah to the Vice-Presidency as too bitter a pill to swollow.  And, like any story, we have to wait and hear the other side.  I'm sure Biden's researchers are compiling a file and including this note and its attacks on Palin.  Lets hear the other side.  Lets hear how Sarah re-negotiated the deal with the oil companies and the State of Alaska giving the State a bigger royalty payment...lets hear about the project to build a huge $40 billion pipeline from the Slope to Alberta to send natural gas to the USA...a lot better energy solution than checking tire pressure..lets hear it all...and make a judgment rather than internet emails from political enemies being treated as "news".  Gosh, Sarah hated her since 1996....kissy kissy pooooor baby!

subtee -> RE: An Inconvenient Email (9/9/2008 12:10:44 PM)

Nothing is presented as news; I'm the OP, and I posted an inquiry: "What are your thoughts?"

Why so much snide on your side?

Golly...how demeaning to woman who shop at Wal-Mart. I would think that woman who shop at Wal-Mart are not "uninformed" but really kinda smart, thrifty and saving some bucks that can be better spent on the kids...like for food!

I watch a lot of the newscasts and looking at the "crowds" I find it hard to determine who is a "right wing type"
and who is the local principal, fireman's family member, construuction worker, student, soldier, "left wing nut spying with a webcam, or the local bishop!  Fantastic that you could tell that withhout each of them carrying a sign saying
"Right wing nutcase, Wal-Mart mom"!  Gimme a break!

Errr...sorry about that but I did google the woman's name and there are pages and pages of quotes from
her "email" picked up buy bloggers and the email is taking on a life of its own.  My thoughts would
be what I said .."Hell hath no fury like a democrat spurned"....and would wait for a response from Sarah
at a debate or whereever when these observations in the email are asked of her.  Did not intend any snide
remark...Don't like snide or flaming other people..just discussion among people who might agree or disagree
on a topic.  As OP you can delete my post if you like.

Oh, I'm relishing it, actually. The irony of Obama supporters taking their tactical cues from John McCain is delightfully entertaining.

Of course, unless Palin starts mewling about being called a celeb vis-a-vis Obama, the tactic doesn't work. Bait is only effective when the prey comes up to nibble (or, in Obama's case, swallow whole).

"a budget surplus"

Did you notice the 22 million in debt?

She came in with zero debt.

Burn her at the stake?

Nope....

How about some candor?

I`d rather have her submit to more than just one interview by the con-friendly FoxNews.

Is that all we`re going to get from McPalin?

One lousy interview, before this woman might be VP?

Seems like they`re trying to hide her.

This stinks.
