Hi Michael,

Having some Gatorade and Red Bull in the car would be good for a long distance haul like this.  You can stop at truck stops for a quick shower before going into the courtroom or on your way back.  (Some of my Midwest cousins are long distance truck drivers).  I roll the windows down, turn up the fan and blast the stereo when needing to clear my head from the white line fever.

Best of luck with all the court situations.

A quick shout out to hunk boy, you can get dental insurance on your own for about $30-$40 per month.  I did that for several years through Blue Cross.  You can look up the info on the Net.

thank you all for the helpful advice and the well-wishes. i hope the court will allow me to say a few words, i've got 4 years of stuff to say but will summarize things in a brief statement. will be working on just what i will say along the way.

Try and stop every 2-3 hours just to stretch your legs.  Even if it's just for a few minutes.  It really helps with a long drive.

Don't most rental companies put a gps map system in their cars these days? Or have I just been lucky the last couple of times?

You've been lucky.

Like everyone else said just stop every two or three hours.

Once you get to Oklahoma the rest stops come few and far between they literally have "rest" stops where you stop and rest and that is all. Don't use those picnic tables people do weird and yuccky things on them. Make sure you get gas because you could hit an area where there are no gas stations for quite awhile.

this car unfortunately doesn't have GPS, but will have laptop with me (provided i find a place to plug in for power since the battery sucks on it...it's an old laptop)

i will stop somewhere along the way for fuel and maybe replenish my beverage.

Oh and another thing.  WIFI on the road is not always easy to find.  Rest areas may offer it, but you'll have to pay.
I found it's best to stop for a coffee or something then check the web there last year when I did my 5 days
going cross country.  (and I did it on a tight budget)  One thing I did do was meet others I'd chatted with for
years which was great.  I also slept in the truck twice at rest areas (locked doors and a loaded under the seat)
I'd do it again in a minute.....
But be careful, watch the weather and most of all keep your cool in court!

Good Luck!

Hey Michael - depending on the route you take, it'll be a 17 to 20 hour drive going straight through.  I've made the drive from OKC to Atlanta and back (straight through both directions) a few times myself.  A lot of really nice scenery, as long as the highways aren't screwed up with road work.  Since I live in the OKC metro and have my entire life (except the few months out in GA) let me know when ya hit the city limits.

And just as an FYI - gas is currently just under $3.30/gal here in the OKC metro.  (Saw $3.27 today while I was over on the west side of town this afternoon not far from the fairgrounds.)  OH YEAH - do NOT forget - OK State Fair starts Thursdays, so traffic around downtown headed westbound is gonna be Ugly for several days.

Get a car with cruise control. I once drove 12 hours straight, stopping only for gas and about 9 hours in, my right leg started to cramp up from not moving it except to mash down the gas pedal.

And with cruise control, if you do end up falling asleep at the wheel, you won't need to worry about slowing down and losing time

Michael,
i used to have severe interstate phobia....Two tricks i learned:  use randmcnally.com for the directions. One of the things i love about them is that they have a map on there but they also give You turn by turn written directions....{Yeah, i failed geography for a reaons}...
The other thing that has saved my life is to pick up some books on tape or on video..It stops my obsessing.... You can always rent some good ones from Your local library...
Good luck You'll be in my prayers,
Kali
