Well I had asked my Mistress of the name i have and she said it was ok . She told me when i asked her if she liked it she said yes because of what i was into. She wanted to put a picture of me in a Trash Bag on my Profile here on CM. So Dommes give your name and tell you that is your name that you go by. Before I thought about a name for me i asked her what would she call me and she told me to think of a name and if she did not like it she will tell me and i came up with a couple of names and she told me this name even though i am a Trash Bag Slut.

I've never known anyone who had their slave pick out the name, though I wouldn't be surprised that its been done.  Nothing new under the sun, I'm afraid.

As for slave names, there is something very gut wrenching to have your former identity taken from you and to be given a new name.  It was difficult for me, and I hated it and hated the name.  Before that experience, I would have scoffed myself at how silly it seemed and that it couldn't possibly be a big deal.  It had a disturbing effect on me psychologically that I still puzzle over today.  I still keep the polished semi-precious stone, for which I'd once been named after.  Some day, I think I'll trade it in for a rare and precious gem - more in line with my TWUE identity hah!

I was given my nick name of 'goodpet' from the couple who did some mentoring and training when i first started to learn about bdsm and the M/s lifestyle.  It's a long story, and personal, but it had special meaning to me, and so i have been known as goodpet ever since.

I guess my slave name is simply just "slave ann". I mean that is my name and that is what is what the local Masters call me when talking or writing more official stuff, they add the 'slave' in front of our names.  but in casual conversation it is "ann".

so my full scene name is "ann goodpet"   been that for about 9 years now.

When We met and it was time He brought up the idea of giving me a name. The kind and thoughtful man offered me three names from which to pick. He would not give me their meanings until after I had chosen. I chose Cachad ,which means captured one in Gaelic......It was a wise choice...

i dont know if i have a slave name...... I suppose it's Maggi since Leather Sir has taken to dropping the e from my name the lats few times hes actually written my name out.

Thanks everyone ....you have all been great help to me... sometimes i tend to get a bit funny and only see things one way (thinking it a bit strange to be naming myself) but after reading everyones comments i think i understand much better where He is coming from ..Thank-you :)
Now... don't suppose anyone has any ideas on what the hell i call myself? or maybe some great website that could help???

Hubby calls me by my name.  My first dom only called me "bitch". but he chose it.

The names have been changed but lets say I take sue to a bondage party and call her beth.  One day Sue was with friends from church and a guy that was at the bondage party says hi beth.  She ignores him and he says hi beth again making sure she knows he is talking to her. Her friends said she is not beth.  Sue told me later that he looked at her funny and left and she understood why the different name.  At another bondage party he told us the she had a look-a-like and the responce was that we heard everyone does.  Dave

Well, off the top of my head, I'd name you trouve (accent over the last e, pronounced tru-vey). It means "found" in French.

Master had me submit my 3 chooses, but in the end He will pick the name he wants me to be called by.

We have pet names, which have grown over time and shared experience to be uniquely meaningful to us.  But we do not choose specific new names based on orientation.

In my sub journey, each Dominant i became attached to for a while gave me a name special to us. Chosen because of something He saw in me ... so i was starr (i was His bright morning star thanks to our time zones!), then pristine rose (for my english complexion) ... then Master chose violet because of my passion for all things purple! i liked all 3 of those, they had meaning to me too. Master actually doesn't use violet all that often, mostly calling me pet, so when we moved here i asked Him if i could become more generally known by that nickname and He said yes! So to my Avon customers etc i am violet, though they know it's a nickname rather than my official name. I tend to only use My birth name now with family and officialdom, Jay for My Domme side and violet for my sub side actually seem more "me".

I think there can be a lot of significance in a name and I would probably find a special name for a sub, once I got to know him/her enough to capture that essential quality. I like the idea of earmarking them with My choice of name ... though I'd probably not stick with something they hated, I would want them to regard it as special too.

Fox got his name and his collar on the same day. I named him, he had no input into it. He loves his name though, and it is twofold useful. A, it gives him something other than his real name to use in screennames and profiles, and two it is a pet name we can use in public and with others that doesnt draw quite the attention that whore or slut might.

I suppose that is up to the individual D type.  I wouldn't be opposed to such a thing, but, all of my pets have been given their name from me.  Usually within a few days of knowing them, and always before they've gotten their collar.  If the name doesn't strike me almost instantly, I've found that it's a sure sign that it's just not meant to be.

For example, there has been, among others, my Sweet One, Cute One, Beautiful One, Mischievous One, and currently, and I hope to last forever, my Dear One.  I don't know why those names show up in my head, outside of insanity, but, they do, and they fit. 

If any of them asked for a different name, I would probably let them choose.  But thusfar, they've all seemed just fine with it.

I am not a slave but my Husband does refer to me by several names, all of which I am happy with. I like my birth name and I think he does too so I do not believe he would want to change it.
 
I think I would prefer to come up with names for Him!!! [:D]

I think having a "slave name" can have a couple of functions. It can be an aid to helping remind a slave of their new role; perhaps a sissy name for an over macho male sub, to remind him to adopt a more effeminate persona, or perhaps a new "slut" name to help an inhibited female sub let go of attitudes they have learned in their early life, to attach all the "nice girls don't"s to their legal name and abandon themselves to their Dom's desires.
It can also signify WHEN a sub is expected to behave fully "in role" - if addressed by a name other than their legal name, they KNOW what response is required.
Who should choose it? Perhaps the more literary or imaginative partner? Well, I don't think that matters too much as long as it means something to both of them ...and the Dominant should have the final call.

I find the act of me naming what is mine, or them naming what is thiers, a deeply intimate and beautiful act.

And to those that think they would forget that name? i think they would surprise themselves at how quickly and profoundly you align your whole being with it.

my chosen slave name was asshat for a while. i still have the tracings of one of the s's on my back...like a trampstamp.
i have been named perse, pepper and had my birthname used.
