Hi everyone.. i am interested in hearing opinions on Doms that have their slave 'come up' with their own slave name? Thanks for Your thoughts

I have no opinion on this really other than if i had been allowed to come up with my own it would either have been something not so nice like 'freak' or cutesy like 'fuck candy'. Pretty sure Sir would say neither of these suit me or resemble me to him. He calls me 'minx'. Common place? most definately. Descriptive of me? To Sir yep. So i guess my opinion would be i would rather as Sir did he choose my slave name but each to thier own as always. Edited because i agree with the dark below. my slave name is just a nick and i presumed that was what we were talking about - my bad lol.

Why would a slave have a different name other than the one they were born with - unless changed offically for some genuine reason? I can understand a slave having a pet name or nickname and changing it etc... but this seems very fantasy based to me, even if a dominant is into bigtime micromanaging and heavy control methods. the.dark.

personally.. unless a slave name was my given name..I'd never remember to answer to it.

Giving your slave a name makes them realise that they belong to the Mistress. If they hear their name be called, somewhere either than the Mistress/slave enviroment, they will immediatelly think of You, remember who they are and Who they belong to. I like My slaves to think of Me even when I am not with them! I makes Me powerful!

If you look at the BDSM as a whole, isn't it fantasy based turned reality by others. Since there is no such thing as a legal slave anymore? What's wrong with making fantasy a reality. I fantasize about certain things all the time that i would like to see come about in the real. As for naming a slave, i guess it would be an attempt to get that person into a certain frame of mind. I name mine but rarely call them that in private(It's just a nickname to me) I've also called mine My sweet, My pet and so on. Just terms of endearment from the heart. I may be what you called a micro manager to some..I'm cool with that. (edited to add) I'm not really the son of Daedalus.[:D]

Kyra is not the name I was given at birth. It is a name that he gave me when I became his and I use it unless I need my legal name. I actually prefer it, especially for online use since my legal name is so unique. I have never asked him why and it doesn't bother me. He had me give him options of what I prefer and then he chose Kyra. Who I am is not a name; changing my name does not change my identity. Knight's Kyra

One that reflects their submissive personality with Me. Unique to our dynamic together. A special thing that I will call them that is inspired by the way I see them through My eyes. It's not saying that I want to change them as a person. It's that I want them to see what I see in them, and have that as a constant reminder. It's a sign of affection. Another popular reason is that some folks are more comfortable with scene names. Not everyone has the comfort with having their real name used. A given name can help to relieve them of that. I've looked through the meanings of thousands of names to find one that fit a girl before, as i saw her being(What she meant to me). Looking for just the right one.

Well, I have a sceen name, which everyone uses, apart from a few (and I do mean a handful) who know my name, which is a version of my birth name. In some ways, I guess it just reminds me which "hat" I've got on in any given moment. When teaching, I get called "Miss", when at a sceen event, I get called "Suzanna/Suzy", when "working" I'm "Ivy"... it's just another way of reminding me which set of behaviours I should be using. As far as taking a "slave name", I really don't care. If that's what floats his/her boat, then, yes, sure, go for it. Especially if, as LP writes, it's something personal and special between the two of us, that helps me to see myself in the way that they see me. A name that means something only to the two of us, would be another form of bond. And I think I might like that, in some set-ups. (On the flip side, there are enough names for me already, that another one could become muddling :P)

I definately know of people who have changed their name offically, to a name of their Owners liking, a couple who changed due to gender reassignment etc. But what I 'get' from this thread is more 'pretend' than fantasy- does that make more sense? I mean, I have a nickname - .dark. - but it's not something I chose, nor that Darcy did - it is a natural thing that came about over time. Knight's Kyra I find this discussion interesting, since my spiritual path -requires- clergy to accept/adopt a new spiritual name at each of the major cusps of our journey, and the name I use in the D/s and BDSM realms is also my current path-name. They do this because it is believed that the journey actually -does- change who we are as a person. I happen to use a former spiritual name as my legal name. It was such a compelling fit for me when I was ordained that I embraced it as representative of me through all the realms of reality. I never felt that connected to my birth name -- it never really seemed to fit me as a person. A diminutive of another path-name was what my Keepers chose to use for me when I was in service to earn my crop. For the OP, perhaps there is something of significance to you that might serve to both connect you to your service and to something that speaks to your spirit/soul. I'd think about choosing something like that as a name, if I were given the opportunity to provide input. Calla Firestorm

Does it change who you are or does the name more accurately reflect who you were to begin with? Is the name change a catalyst of some sort to actualize the person within? I don't know much about spiritual journeys; I have my own mental walls in regards to spirituality that I am working on overcoming. I do know that for me changing my name did not change who I am. It marked a point in time when I started behaving in a way that was more fulfilling for who I am. I guess that could be perceived as changing, but the difference internally is just a more peaceful person. I stopped trying to be what I am not and gave myself permission to be me. Knight's Kyra

I had this really cool slave name that I came up with once with the help of other people on the old message boards of usenet. Anyway, it was some grand title of something like "Super Magna Glorious....Submissive Guy". There were about 15 or so adjectives in it. So, I stated that from that point on, I would demand all dominant women refer to me by that name. Well, my Mistress at that time was not a real net person; she was way too busy as an actual pro dominant at the time, so I was known to hold tons of conversations online with people, and she rarely cared, or even paid any attention. Well, one evening a few days later, she was locking me away for the night (use to sleep in a prison cell of hers...yeah, I know...lots of safety issues that can be saved for another time and thread), and usually she was nice enough to give me a pillow...usually. Well, this evening, as she was about to slip the pillow through the bars, she said: "I'm not sure the "Super Magna Glorious....Submissive Guy" really needs a pillow when his own head is already so big as it is. Then she proceeded to trade me the pillow for my great title, reminding me who was really the one in charge of this relationship. It was a nice name...for the few days I got to have it.

He said no, both cuz he likes is and he knows I like it. A "slave name" or scene name should be something the person enjoys and will want to be called. Some Doms want the slave to choose cuz it's difficult to come up with a name for another person and know that they'll like it. I see it more as a considerate thing to do. When my first Master was thinking about my name he gave me options that he liked and let me choose from them. If I hadn't liked any of the options he wasn't gonna force one on me. Shylah

The name change (which is only required for clergy, BTW, but because of other aspects of our path, the only folks who really stay past the "postulant" level are clergy...so... sorta moot point, but not really)...anyway... for me, the name change was both a recognition of ways that I had changed during my trek to get to the cusp that I was at, and, in some ways, representative of the journey and changes I still had before me. After 30 years (and 5 name changes), I still find that there is more to the road. Somehow, 30 years ago when I contemplated this, I thought that my cusp two names ago (which really was my longest, at nearly a decade) would be as far as I would ever feel compelled to go. Yeah, well, things change, huh? grins I don't think it is possible to be anything -but- oneself... but it is possible to change the way we see ourselves and the goals we set for ourselves, and I think that that is what the name change represented (and still represents) for me -- that acknowledgment that who and what I am is fluid, unpredictable, and constantly transitioning, and that no label (and I see a name as a label) will bind that roving spirit for very long. To the OP, I think whether people come up with their own names, the Dom chooses one for them, it simply comes about over time or they never use one is another one of those cases where no one thing is right for everyone. I think letting the slave choose or at least have some say in ther matter is more important when it is likely to become their name legally. In my case, Master uses my real name sometimes and at other times calls me Bel. It derived from the screenname which is so dear to me and I use for a variety of sites, including this one. I like that variants of bel/bella mean beautiful and that, in this particular case, it came from beltaine (a pagan fertility festival which centers around the gift of human sexuality/fertility). Of course, he also often just calls me slut, but I sense that isn't the kind of name you were talking about.
