What's wrong with laughing?  Just remember to make it an EEEEEEEEVIL laugh, 'k?  [:D]

kittinSol -> RE: Role-playing (8/28/2008 2:37:13 PM)

You're right, there's nothing wrong with laughing; I just have this preconceived idea of people taking roleplay seriously and of ruining everything by cracking up. Guffawing doesn't always go down that well [:D] (and I guffaw a lot).

aidan -> RE: Role-playing (8/28/2008 2:39:25 PM)

Personally, I don't see the benefit of being serious about damn near anything. :-p

MizSexyVixen -> RE: Role-playing (8/28/2008 2:40:38 PM)

I love RP, though I agree having a good partner is essential. Some of my favorites are Cop/suspect, Head Mistress/school child, Mother Superior/altar boy . . .

Like soldiers, and Tramp Steamer?  Are ya SURE?  [&:]

Mmmm, tramp steamer role-play. Lonely and sex-starved sailor (Mistress) comes to port in some backwater outpost of the Empire looking for a bit of shore leave fun with the local boys of the night...There's a place that sells costume jewelry not far from our house...I could vamp it up real good...

Oh yeah. It's exactly like that. [;)]

JerryFrankster -> RE: Role-playing (8/28/2008 4:51:23 PM)

Lindie England and George Bush prison scene.

"I'm done sublissicated. I cain't get no more!"

"Shit boy, we ain't even got to the anal yet!"

ultsub -> RE: Role-playing (8/28/2008 6:18:28 PM)

One of my favorites: Chief Information Architect and the naughty java programmer.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Role-playing (8/28/2008 7:36:26 PM)

Ultsub is so subversive!  [:D]

TNstepsout -> RE: Role-playing (8/28/2008 7:41:29 PM)

I used to have a lot of fun with online roleplay. Where two people would sort of co-create an erotic story.  We came up with some great stuff. It would be a lot of fun to recreate some of those stories in real life. (although some of them would get me arrested) But I really love role play that's very situational in nature and perhaps includes an element of coercion. As in a shopkeeper catches someone stealing and forces him/her to do what s/he wants to avoid problems with the police. Or reversing roles, the student is blackmailing the teacher (hmmm what dirty secret could she possibly have on him?) secretary finds out the boss has embezzled some funds etc...

I also like anything to do with  periods when there was an incredibly amount of pent up sexual tension. I have a things for the early fire and brimstone Quakers and such. I imagine all that "fire" was really coming from somewhere entirely different. I love the idea of a roleplay that would allow people in these settings to "release" their tension through some odd kind of relationship that they manage to convince themselves is Godly. (strange I know but....)

aidan -> RE: Role-playing (8/29/2008 10:10:10 AM)

Heh, I know the feeling TN, on the whole "if I did this I'd get arrested" front.

I've still yet to figure out how I could possibly enact my ultimate fantasy without getting into severe legal trouble. I won't get into details to spare some folks sensibilities that I know would be upset, but suffice to say it involves:
* Getting use of an empty church for a few hours
* A leather cassock
* Altar robes
* A Jackhammer Jesus
* Lots of "holy water"
* An olde-tymey enema kit
* Lots of paddles
* Spandex shorts
* Pea soup
* Something pink
* An 8-Track cassette
* A speed limit sign that doesn't end in 0 or 5
...I'm sorry, I was thinking about my scavenger hunt list.

Of course, it's also just as much fun to think about Mistress' fantasies and how to play those out. I'm working on putting together one that I know is a favorite for her. I still need to learn how to work the sewing machine, though. And make jewelry...

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Role-playing (8/29/2008 10:13:20 AM)

Does this mean that you're not going to be Pikachu for Halloween? [8D]

aidan -> RE: Role-playing (8/29/2008 10:29:04 AM)

You know, if I thought she would let me get away with that, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Oh no...Now I'm thinking of Pokemon Trainer/wild pokemon role-play, and it's not seeming all that bad an idea.

Damn my suggestible crazy!

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Role-playing (8/29/2008 4:07:52 PM)

See, I might not ENJOY role play, but I do UNDERSTAND it!  [8D]

So does that mean that as you're about to finish you get to yell "SQUIRTLE SQUIRTLE"?

(Please don't ask me about my Poke-knowledge.)

JerryFrankster -> RE: Role-playing (8/29/2008 4:20:59 PM)

"You've been captured by a wood nymph. She used a level 7 shrink spell on you. You are now about 2/3 her size."

"Um, I try half heartedly to get away?" *struggles a little*

"She has decided to pound your sweet little ass with one of her many strap-ons."

"... Is she.. um..Does she say anything to me about why she, uh, what her motive.."

"No. I have to roll to see which one she picks now... Ooooh! I rolled a 20." * Starts putting on the BAM*

"SAVING THROW! SAVING THROW!!"

"You don't get a saving throw."

"Teleport! TELEPORT!!"

"You can't cast teleport, you have a gag in your mouth."

"But I don't haMMMPH!!

I dunno, that sounds like a great DM to me. All the more reason to get Mistress back into the pen-and-paper saddle. *daydreams...*

I'm partial to Head Mistress/schoolgirl, Evil Queen/imprisioned damsel, or Lady of the Manor/serving wench sorts of scenes.  However, if it means putting together a fun costume and having my way with a hot woman, I'm willing to entertain almost any scenario.

How about a hot (well, at least trying to be hot) crossdresser?  I have a serving wench costume!

I also have a "captive princess" fantasy that I'd like to develop with someone sometime....

The biggest difficulty I've had with role-playing is lack of ability in partners.

Frankly if he/she can't act or get into the fantasy, it isn't worth my time.

Actually, one of my interests in D/s roleplay is the notion of having someone who will make sure I stay in character.  I've done some live-action (but non-kinky) roleplaying, and I have often come away unhappy with myself, if not for breaking character (which can be hard not to do when many of the other people present break character often), then for not putting myself as deeply into the character as I would like to.

One of my major reasons for being interested in ponyplay, actually, is the fact that, once one is all tacked up with a bit in the mouth and so forth, it would be difficult *not* to stay in character...

I've considered trying to find a lady to attend a RenFaire with, where I would go as her maidservant -- someone who would snap me back into character if I started to slip out.  But of course, that does call for a commitment on her part, too.

As a storyteller in our gaming group (I do the World of Darkness stuff) I reward people for playing their characters well.. more XP and verbal/email praise. I have a responsibility to set up the situation and the world, describe it well, and provide opportunities for every player/character do do something interesting that session; they have the responsibility to pick up on that and not jerk by laughing or joking around at inappropriate times and being on time... can't do that, you don't get as much XP as the person who can. That's my gaming group.

In a Ds relationship it isn't any more my job to make my partner stay in his character than it is for him to make me stay in character. We both have the responsibility to put our all into for the dynamic, for the personal relationship well beyond what you owe your gaming group or casual friends/buddies I think.

In both cases it primarily comes down to the desire and ability of each person. No one can make you be more in character, they can merely react to what you offer. If you don't offer enough or as much as others you won't be role-playing again with that group or person.

I don't honestly know how to teach someone to do this better because it is part acting, which I guess you can learn to a degree, but it's also talent and motivation.

A good DM knows when to fudge the numbers.

No pun intended.
