The abscense of an active BDSM scene and a large demographic of online partners has an impact on my life because it makes it exceedingly hard to find people I can relate to and even harder to find potential partners for a fulfilling relationship....even harder and harder when that demographic is narrowed to my age bracket!

When one is surrounded by a majority of people who don't fully know all the aspects of your life and who aren't educated or capable of understanding alternative sexual desires and intimate relations, such external circumstances can spawn feelings of not being "understood" and loneliness.

The diminishing of the pool of potential partners can be even harder than the diminishing pool of potential personal friends as it lowers the chances and makes it more difficult to find someone for a fulfilling relationship.

I hate to be negative, but unfortanely, being in an enviroment where there is a lack of people you can relate to regarding a part of your life can have an impact on a person and I think it's important to be aware of that.

Personally, I forsee a move coming in the next few years for myself when I am in a better position to take such a risk.

I thought that would be the case when we came to Indiana only to find a huge community though spread apart in different cities when I started looking. Always helps to be near to metropolitan areas or universities.

Start one! :D

People all over the world like a little spank and tickle, even if they don't create a group to talk about it.

That being said... you should go check out South Korea for a year or so, sounds like it would be fun.

South Korean, I agree. Missouri, unfortunately, is a position in such a small, rural area that "starting my own" community would probably cause me to lose my job in about an hour.

You are aware that Missouri has ALL kinds of BDSM clubs??? No matter where you moved, especially to a university town you would not be more than an hour or two from one of them. If you want to contact me privately I can share more information with you.

grew up in rural Missouri

There are several in Springfield, Joplin, and some other small towns as well. In fact Tulsa is less than  2 hours from the Missouri border and we have a large group here.

heck - choose the one that gives you better umph on the old resume. You can put up with anything for a couple of years - and it won't kill you to be celibate for that period of time. At the end of that time, you should have better prospects of moving somewhere with an active bdsm community.

For the record, Missouri is a beautiful state with its share of kinky people - they sometimes come down into Arkansas.

Well when Master and I moved here to rural Queensland, I knew the local pool would be pretty small! And while I am blessed with Him, I really want a sub to share My life too. All I can do is talk to those who are willing to relocate. And we have located and made friends with a local sub and her Dom which is wonderful, so we have our own mini-scene.

Sounds like Missouri would be good, South Korea, well, like the others, I would urge caution. Even with knowing the language, could be a bit too risky to get involved. Not sure what their policy is on censoring websites or monitoring emails and messages etc ... you could get yourself into trouble rather easily I fear, possibly with something quite innocent.

As for the career, well I'm with you there sarbonn. I love teaching, and I've been missing it. Which is why I am sweating on a job at the moment and hoping I get it! Yes relationships are important, but so is the capacity to love what you do for work so many hours each day. Teaching for Me isn't a job, it's a vocation. It's every bit as much who I am as being a Dominant and a submissive is. I can't resist an opportunity to teach. I've been at it most of My life ... from teaching guitar in My teens (to people older than Me sometimes, including the music teacher at high school!), to teaching at high school and University, music to My choir and now scrapbooking! So go for it sarbonn and good luck!
