Termyn8or -> RE: Google Says Privacy Doesn't Exist, Get Used To Everyone Knowing Everything About You (8/5/2008 6:30:38 AM)

Sorry about the hijack. As far as a googol goes I guess the exponent could have an exponent and you could just about express any number. I was trying to mention it in passing, I did not mean to take us there. The topic was privacy. The fact is that there is very little. Actually CM comes about as close as it gets IMO. Nobody knows who you are unless to tell them. However, nothing is absolute. Write a post threatening the President, and even though they will remove it, there is a window of so many hours that someone could see it. If that happens they will send papers demanding your IP and email header information, which will lead them right to your front door. CM will comply, they don't have much choice in the matter. Neither does your ISP. In fact there was a big hubbub about that not too long ago. Want privacy ? Cover the cieling and walls of your bathroom with antistatic bubble wrap and go in there. Want your finances to be private ? Use cash for everything. Even then you can't, usually you can't even rent somewhere, and really, buying a car or a house, your name is still on it. Privacy is like freedom, just an illusion. I had to take a minute and reread that last sentence. I let it stand because it is true. T
