Sir and I live in Kansas and are getting married in a few months. We are on a very limited budget. I'm not a member of any church but I did ask the church my grandmother attended and they want $535. I thought about having it at the renaissance festival, but Sir thinks that's a bad idea because it costs to get in. I'm afraid if I plan to have an outside wedding it will be too windy or get rained out. We would appreciate any ideas on inexpensive places to have a wedding and reception with approximately 50 guests.

My wife and I were married in a funereal chapel. It cost about $250. Luckily, we had planned on Halloween for our vows, and apparently, there's some sort of tradition for these places to not actually perform sevices for the dead on Oct. 31. (go figure)

You could always check with your local VFW hall, their rates are usually pretty reasonable.  Also you could do a search for local kink friendly ordained ministers, this way you could have the ceremony at the beginning of the reception.

Congrats,
Thadius

How much would it cost to rent a tent and put it in someone's nice yard? Perhaps you could set up the chairs outside, and use the tent for the reception or just marry under the tent. You can get them with detachable sides and adapt with the weather.

Local wineries or micro breweries usually have fantastic wood filled buildings and its surprisingly cheap (around here) to rent out the place -
their kitchens cook and whatever their speciality is - is included...
It was a financial windfall of savings for me.

I got married in a public park(a small rose garden) and had our reception at a friends home. Both free.We had a pot-luck affair w/ a buddy DJing.

Our preacher, some food and two kegs of beer,....$250,total.

The time we had,priceless.

There are so many ways to save.Good luck.

Then there are creative solutions:

Aircraft hangers
roller rinks
bars that have stages for live music
Theatre stages
Hotels that let you use a convention center facility in exchange for renting a room.
Your local natural history museum
Local libraries
Here in the south, we have several antebellum mansions that are "preserved" they can sometimes be rented for weddings...

Then there's always saying "screw it" and ask for a honeymoon in Vegas, and just get hitched out there by an Elvis impersonator.

You might even check some places like this http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf250074.tip.html if you haven't already.

Again good luck,
Thadius

hi
We were married in feb in C's parents house in front of family and friends. We were hoping to be in the garden but, as the weather wasnt the best, we all moved inside. A good friend of ours did a fantastic buffet for lunch and our boys acted as barmen. It wasnt the first time for either of us so we didnt want too much fuss. We were married by a great friendly marriage celebrant and our black dog sat at our feet during the vows :-) all just perfect, and not too expensive
Hope it all goes as well for you xox
edited for spelling duh!!!

A friend's house would be a great idea if I knew anyone with a room inside their house large enough. Outside I see myself walking down a staked down cloth isle on a windy day with my hands on my head trying to hold my veil on. Thanks for all the great ideas so far.

If you get married on a Sunday, then just take everyone to a Sunday brunch for the reception.  My ex and I did that - you can get away for $15 or so a head, and everyone gets whatever food they want, not just PBJ.

If you have a casino nearby it might be cheap there.  We paid around $200 for daughter's wedding at the Tropicana in Vegas.

Get a justice of the peace get married at the court then go to a free park and have every one treat it like a picknick and bring something to eat.

Depends on how getto you want to go or how nice you want to go.

Restaurant and dinners at own cost? Swimming pool and entree fee at own cost - discount perchance possible? Some other sports hall, like a climbing hall and getting married five metres up the climbing wall? Inside a supermarket or mall?

Scout hall, or a public park that has a shed/hall, local sport's club, that's in off season ...
to decorate, buy metres (sorry yards) of cheap, colourful fabric to line the walls if yuckky and the ceiling gives a dreammy effect.

Girlfriend was married in a rowing club's meeting room, attached to where the boats were stored.  the sound of the lapping water was rather romantic.

all the food was finger food with a mix of hot and cold ... chairs and tables were in place around a makeshift dance floor and the wedding was conducted there ... it was lovely day.

good luck

A JP's office for the vows (it costs nothing other than the paper work) then a pot-luck in a park?
