i have been using this phrase a lot and lately have realised S/some P/pl probably don't know what i mean when i say it. i'm talking about hogtying, arm binders, straight jackets and other restraints that put a body in a strained position, as opposed to, for example, being cuffed to a bed post where you lie in a more or less natural position.

Is that what M/most P/pl think is meant by "heavy bondage"? Or is this something i should explain whenever i would use the phrase?

It's a matter of opinion, probably based mostly on the bottoms flexibility.

The "heaviest" bondage positions I have been in, may as well be easycakes for someone else. Likewise, armbinders and hogties are no strain on my arms and shoulders, so it's not all that bad for me. I was going to describe what was harsh for me, but I have no idea where to start, and I wish I had a pix of it.. I was pretty impressed with the top to say the least. ^_^

Well, I wouldn't call wrists cuffed together behind the back, 'heavy bondage', though that is essentially the same position achieved by armbinders. Now, if you take 100 feet of 3/8" rope, and bind the arms behind the back, then another 100' of 3/8 rope and weave a corset that covers the body from above the pubic bone to just below the breasts (that includes nine 1 1/2" nickel rings as attachment points, then weave rope gauntlets out of 50' of 1/2" rope--each (complete with five 1" nickel rings as attachments points per forearm), then repeat on the ankles what you've done to the arms--

--you've spent the better part of an hour or more, and you now have someone wearing a dozen pounds of rope or more, and who is ready to be suspended...

That's 'heavy'!

It wouldn't hurt to explain it. Your idea of heavy bondage is someone else's idea of a good tickle.

*Sighs*. So the consensus is, this is yet another thing i have to explain? Man, there's so litle nomeclature to rely on in D/s. O well...i can certainly do it.

I'll second that. Of course, the degree of explanation depends on how much is needed. If someone said to me at a club "I do heavy bondage" I'd just say "Nice." If they said "I'd like you to do heavy bondage on me" I'd ask "What do you mean by that." If they say "I'd like to do heavy bondage on Libby" I'd say "Sit down; we are going to be talking for a while."

Leatherist would like to pour boiling amber around someone? make a kind of sub paperweight? that could be better than a $5 sub sandwich, maybe even.

i'd consider a straitjacket to be a good ingredient for heavy bondage, especially if it's leather. Personally, i interpret it as bondage that achieves a very high degree of immobility, regardless of the amount of strain involved in the position. For example, being mummified head-to-toe in plastic wrap and duct tape, then secured to a padded table by a dozen or so belts doesn't really create any strain, but i'd consider it heavy bondage.

mmmmmm I thought heavy bondage was chains equal in weight to the person that was going to be wrapped up in them.

I'm not too sure about bondage. I'm thinking more of... asylums, psychiatric wards, 'secure' institutions for the mentally ill.

But then again reading some of these threads also makes me think of such places.
