ORIGINAL: soul2share OK, cool...I needed to vent, typed it all out, and am okay now......mostly. I just don't get young people and their lack of a work ethic. They seem to have excuses out the ass, part of the rant I didn't post involves two single mothers (21 years old) who use their kids as an excuse anytime they don't want to work. And the third one just plain didn't show up today! Unfortunately, the company I work for doesn't seem to give a rat's ass about someone's attendance. No show's at any job I've ever had meant an immediate termination...here, they don't even write them up for it! And then they wonder why the work isn't getting out....there's barely anyone there to do it, the company won't pay overtime for those that are willing to come to work and would stay to get it done. And to top it off, when the problem children do decide to come to work, all they do is bitch about the job......I was in a lousy mood one day, and told them that if they hated it so much, to get the hell out so they could possibly hire someone who would be willing to at least do 40 hours of work a week! That shut them up for a while, but they are back at it again. Am I just getting old? I know it's not like this for all young people, my son has worked since he was 8 years old with his dad on farms, had a fulltime job while he was in college, and is now working as an apprentice for his farrier's license. I just don't get it....what the hell happened????? I wish it would only be to blame on the age. One of the things which annoyed me during employments here was how many found it perfectly ok to be late on a regular basis...and not just 10 minutes, nope some folks came regular 2 hours late...back home I couldn't have behaved that way as I would have never passed my probation period with that attitude...now finally they will figure it out as after my job loss they introduced a system following which relief staff has to call a certain number to log in their time of arrival at work and the same to log out. They give staff individual codes to use, that way they can track who is on time at work and who not and I am sure that many of the regulars will be pissed off about it. I really wish they would have done that years ago as it annoyed me regular at one particular place that I could only do the late shift and a sleep in afterwards but not the morning shift (on many occassions) as that was already taken by someone else and that usually by two of the guys who were chronically late and could not be arsed to take a train or bus earlier as that would mean for the oh so poor guys to be there 20 minutes before the time starts...so they found it much more acceptable to be 40 minutes late as after all, its not their time they are wasting its only mine (or someone elses...) And do they bother when you clarify it the day before with them to ensure they are on time that you are able to leave on time as you should be able to do? Of course they couldn't care less...so I am glad now, even when I don't work there anymore, that they don't get away with that shit anymore. Also when I worked as a carer years ago I had one staff who was regular 20-30 minutes late for a one hour assignment in the morning and after she did not bother to let the agency know that she can't be there on time or close on time due to her other assignment before that I made sure to let the office know as I was not impressed to work the first half an hour on my own when we were supposed to be two and then the other person just comes in to finish off the little part which is left but receives the full payment for it...quite frankly, that does not work that way...if you can't be there on time then quite frankly don't pretend you would be able to be there on time
