Yuk, thank goodness I am barely out at night [&:]

ShaharThorne -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (2/11/2011 6:52:52 PM)

I need someone to hogtie Lizard and make her go to school.

She thinks its a myth that if a child has numerous absents, the primary parent will be sent to jail and fined $500 a day.

No wonder Bo is stressed out...

Monday, I will take her to school myself and have her counselor straighten her head.  I be damned if Bo and I have to go to jail because of a stubborn child.

ETA:  I am suppose to return to Mt. Pleasant on Monday but I am returning on Tuesday so I can deal with her school and making her stay in school...unless I take home all of her gaming systems...

Spiders.  Fuckin' spiders!!!

I lived in a little travel trailer on an avocado farm once.  The damn water heater pilot light blew out, and of course it was dark, rainy, and windy (that's why the pilot blew out).

So I go out there cussing and swearing, with a jacket on and a flashlight in hand.  Bend down to the cover and just happen to look up...into the biggest damn spiderweb I've ever seen!  Aaaaaiiiiiieeeeee!!  [:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(] (note the 5)

Never seen so many spiders or ground squirrels as on a farm in coastal CA.

You should be proud of your daughter that she would like to test out what has being said and doesn't just believe anything being said, as learning by experience is much more efficient [:)]

There is also something to be said for making a child realize their actions dont just impact them, but those around them. Responsibility is a great lesson to be taught.

Testing what is being told them by ways of asking question of those in charge is one thing. Submitting her parents to a possible jail term and fine just to find out if "its true" is quite another.

yeah I know...but Shahar also knows how I meant it....but its true, it is a lesson to realise that their actions also impact others [:)]

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (2/12/2011 2:43:30 PM)

Oh Lord.....spoke to my sister earlier today.....my nephew has facial injuries that would do our little Holly PROUD!  Apparently, earlier this week, my sister was in her nursing clinical class, and her phone kept going off.  She took a quick potty break, and her phone rang then, so she answered it.  (She didn't answer it before because she saw the caller ID, knew it was Bub, and just figured she'd call back during a break in class....yeah, right!)

It was her son's friend, and he told them they were on the way to the hospital w/Bub.  They had been cutting down a tree for firewood, and when the tree fell, it hit some brush, causing the bottom of the tree to pop up off the ground instead of just falling flat....my nephew took it right in the nose.  It hit him right below the lower lip and plowed into the bridge of his nose.  It knocked him back and down, and he lost consciousness for a few minutes, no one really knows for sure how long.  Somehow, the bridge of the nose didn't get rammed up into his brain, but he's in rough shape.  The tip of his nose is stitched, he split his lower and upper lip, and messed up all of his teeth.....and of course, he went thru the braces thing as a teenager.....the bridge of  his nose is pushed to the right, and he's going in for surgery the fix everything on Monday.  He's got some minor facial fractures to his sinuses, but none of the major facial bones.

My sis said he doesn't appear to be in pain, she says he says his teeth hurt more than his nose, and he can't close his mouth because of the pain from them.  And breathing is tough due to the damage to his septum.  The running joke in the family is that both kids inherited their mother's grace......Bub is the undisputed proof of that......and the winner of the Klutz of the Year award!

She put a pic on her FB page that she took the same day, half of his face appears to be orange, but he didn't get the black eyes most folks get after a shot to the nose.  The swelling was worse the next day, but you can see his stitches on his nose, and the nostril was torn.  I SOOOOO wish I hadn't looked at the pic....just hearing the description of the injury made me cringe!  The immediate concern my sis has is that it appears that his short term memory is damaged.....he doesn't remember anything at all about the accident, and he failed the memory tests the neuro put him thru.  But the neuro seems to think that he will recover okay...there was no brain damage, no swelling or bleeding on the MRI or CT scan.  He is one lucky kid....he keeps telling my sister that he wishes the tree would've hit him in the chest, but he's scrawny, and would have had more serious injuries had he taken it there instead of where he did get hit.  His guardian angel was working some serious OT that day!

Lord, and I thought getting them to 18 was hard enough!  They are always your "little" boy, or in this case, my "little" nephew.

Phoenixpower -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (2/12/2011 2:48:49 PM)

phew...thank goodness my nephew is just 2....sorry to hear that, hope he recovers well.

calamitysandra -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (2/12/2011 3:07:27 PM)

That sounds scary Soul. You are right, as bad as his injuries are, he had a ton of luck.

I hope he recovers quickly and without complications.

outhere69 -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (2/12/2011 4:17:22 PM)

Oh, that's the scariest risk of tree cutting, when it kicks back.  He is a lucky one, for all his hurting.

(of course, I bet he has a different opinion!)

soul2share -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (2/12/2011 5:08:08 PM)

We're all hoping he'll be okay, too.  The docs seem to think that he will, even the neuro guy.  What complicates things is that he's just starting his sobriety, so the whole pain pill thing might be a problem, but the doc said to just watch his use.  He's an alcoholic, never really had much use for drugs, other than dabbling in pot several years ago while in high school.  He said the worst pain is his teeth.....and I've had some bitching toothaches with one tooth, I can't imagine having a whole mouthful of them!  But they aren't going to do anything to the teeth until the nose is all fixed.

Outhere, yeah, he was totally lucky.  The tree was coming down, and it fell into some bushes, which made it work like a seesaw....the bottom end popped up.  He told my sister that he wishes it had hit him in the chest, we're actually glad it didn't.  He's built like a beanpole, and had he taken that blow to his chest, my sister said it probably would have seriously injured him, if not killed him.

He's like a cat.....2 lives down, 7 to go!  Of course, the rest of the family could do without the excitement!

That is true, in 1999 we had a massive storm in my area in Germany, 5 days before the year change, which affected some forest owners big time. We had luck with our forest as it only killed one tree, but others had their forest pretty much wiped out and we had a few fatal accidents, in which the tree bounced back unexpectedly.

Sometimes i see my life also like that with all my near misses and I think my family could agree with you that they could do well without that [:)]!

Anyhow, I hope he is healing fast and well [:)]

[image]http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/mornincoffee2.gif[/image]  to all......

[image]http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/insomniasmiley.gif[/image] SUX!  I've managed about 3 hours of sleep, I'm going to check out an apartment across the street at 9, and hope to crawl back into bed to get another couple of hours before I have to go to work.

My nephew has his surgery on his nose today.  They are resetting the whole thing back to where it belongs, and he's going to have two straws inserted in his nostrils for a week.  Then my sister is going to talk to her dentist about getting his teeth fixed.  He has said absolutely NO BRACES......he went thru that in school and said he'd rather have the teeth pulled than go thru that again.  Depending on how badly they are damaged, that may be the only option.  One of them has twisted sideways in his mouth.....not sure about the rest of them.  Sis put a pic on FB, I'd post it here, but the whole TOS thing.....Lord knows what he looks like now!  He'll have the raccoon eyes after today, Sis said he never got them when it first happened.  But his face was ORANGE in the FB pic......I've never seen orange bruises before!

calamitysandra -> RE: The Holly and Potty Show (2/14/2011 6:28:54 AM)

If the picture was taken after he was treated at the hospital, the orange colour could be from Beta.
