Soul, you trying to make sure I don't sit down for a week? Some kind of friend you are! I pride myself on  my brat side but even I know better than to try that. He would not be amused at all.

They must've had some sort of thing on the River tonight.....and they did fireworks on BOTH sides of the river at the same time.  It looked like they tried to sync the dispalys together, but they were off a few seconds.  But it was still great...I got to see the ones on my side of the river, tree was in the way for the other set.  But the cats went NUTS!  Both Smooch and Boo ran like heck for the kitchen, all foofed up, eyes as big as saucers....Boo just now came out of the kitchen, and Smooch won't go any further towards the hallway than the living room.  The fireworks were about 2 hours ago.  Of course, I had to laugh at them, Boo did the foofy scary kitteh dance when I came out of the hallway, and I've never seen him do that!  So they are pouting a bit cuz I had the nerve to laugh at them!  Squeaks did the under the couch thing, KB cocked an ear, cracked open an eye and went back to sleep......he's such a cool kitteh!

I did. But he would definitely have the last laugh. And he wears a 2X glove which means just a few spanks would leave me brighter than Rudolph's nose.

Hibbie, what about buying her one of those predecorated mini trees? No fuss, no muss and it sits in the middle of the kitchen table.

Aylee, she's adorable!

I love to give gift cards too.....the kids always thought it was cool to go shopping to get their own stuff.  And I now what a pain in the arse returning stuff can be!  As a rule, I don't buy clothes for anyone without having them there to try things on.  About the only things I'll get for anyone is t-shirts.

Celeste, have you considered getting your man those gloves/mittens on a string?  Run 'em thru the sleeves, he'll never lose them again....unless he loses his coats too? [8D]

first of all [sm=biggrin.gif][sm=biggrin.gif][sm=biggrin.gif] S2S that 2nd paragraph is priceless...

apart from that great to hear that you don't buy clothes for others....unless etc....because one annoying friend from the past (I stopped contact wtih her last january) did that shit to me twice...and yes it was a pain to go back and even more a pain that the first shop was limited in choice, so whilst I could exchange it I never wore that exchanged part either....thats what I call flushing money down the toilet....there she had bought me a top with 3/4 sleaves...and I can't stand 3/4....neither on trouser nor on top...so quite frankly short or long but not any shit in between...

then last january I got awful brown leather gloves...a style my grandpa would have loved, in addition to a white fluffy scarf which was not my taste either (apart from that I barely use scarfes anyway) and a coat in size 8...size 8??? not only did it contain pink (and yep, I can't stand pink) I couldn't be further away from a size 8 with being a size 16 on the top half [8|]

Recently on yahoo they had the statement what pressies not to give....and clothes were one of them and I so do agree....because she might not like my taste (if that is her reason) but quite frankly I do [>:][>:][>:]

depends if you want her to know about santa or saint nicholas. i found when mine were little, they knew all about santa, but had no idea about saint nicholas. so i told them those stories. and that helped to explain the gift giving, and other traditions. i then told them that santa himself was an invention of coca cola.

st nicholas/santa claus

In Germany we celebrated St. Nicholas (St. Nikolaus) with putting a pair of boots in front of the bedroom door on the evening of the 5th of december and overnight St. Nikolaus filled it with goodies [:)] (a lil present, eg a book or a pair of socks in addition to walnuts, clementines and sweets [:)] The saying is if you have been a good kid (as I was of course) it will be filled, whereas if you have been bad it will be filled with a bunch of twigs to smack your butt with...though I doubt that any kid really would get those twigs [8|]

In past years, you could adopt a family for Christmas and we would pick one that had kids the same age and sex as mine. Made it easier for my kids to pick presents for someone else, and told me what they would like for themselves. But that was courtesy of a store that closed a long time ago. They were always shocked to discover that a little kid like themselves wanted a coat or a blanket for the holidays.

When I worked as a nanny in Ireland they did that too...they had to fill a shoe box with certain items such as a pair of gloves, a scarf, toothpaste (i think) and some other small treats...was a nice thought, maybe I will look into that stuff as well for next year...suppose online you could still find such things if it isn't locally the case....
