He did put "experts" in quotes.  If they were able to produce large numbers of portable X-ray machines at a price shoe stores could afford, that's close enough to be an "expert".

In the end, he said:
I well remember looking at the bones in my feet when X ray machines were available because  "experts" had concluded that X rays were not dangerous

He's been able to show that such devices did exist in plenty within the range of his lifetime for the purpose he claimed, and I think it's safe to assume that the people who make a machine can be considered at least quote-unquote "experts" on them.  So.. let's give this one to him.  :P

Hmm, I wonder if we can be copied to the matrix, and how sensitive it could be made. Could it feel?

Count me in. I'm ready when the machines are. Just... make sure there are firewalls and virus scanners up the whazoo. And frequent checks to make sure that safety measures are running as they should.

DomKen: your reasoning is as fractured on this issue as it is on others.
This is how.
First a scientist in about 1900 immerses himself in experimenting with X rays and suffers as a consequence. Hence knowledge about the dangers of X rays becomes available.

Now lets consider what the manufacturers of the "foot viewers" did
quote:

While the theoretical dangers of excessive radiation exposure were already fairly well known within the scientific field, actual data on shoe store exposure did not appear until the late 1940s.

Shoe fitting fluoroscopes consisted of a lead-shielded X-ray tube in the base of a metal or wooden cabinet.

In other words they took precautions consistent with the knowledge available at the time.
Experts were involved  but they turned out to be  wrong. I have never said experts are always wrong just frequently so and posted a link to prove it.

So the conclusion is.....
You are an expert and were wrong I was right even tho' I am not an expert.
Your welcome lol

Just to give your arse another kick I actually referred to experts who predict the future. So I know you will agree that weakens your case even more he he he he he he he

From what I can gauge, many machines already have more intelligence than many humans. My toaster is brainier than a quarter of my compatriots I'd estimate - and thats when its not plugged in.

E

I completely agree with LadyEllen---with the average IQ dropping every year here in the US, I think we are there today.

If machines surpass human in IQ it will be because people are just getting dumber not the other way around.
