Well on every other forum im a member off this has come up many times and I think its CM's time to get bombarded.

The people that dont use Firefox you should. Its alot better then IE, it goes faster loading web pages. Next to no popups and adware and spyware does not affect it yet.

You can get cool,good extensions.

http://www.mozilla.org/

Some good extensions are:

Flashgot
PDF download
ChatZilla ( an IRC client)
gTranslate
Dr.Web anti-virus checker
IE VIEW ( lets you open links in IE via Firefox menus)

Forecastfox ( international weather reports or local at bottom of screen )

Another one is No Script ( lets you turn on or off all Java scripts in webpages )
Dictionary Tootip 0.4 ( lets you select a word and get its meanings )

Get those and many more from

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox

Happy hunting...

Excellent browser if you don't mind missing 3/4 of the multimedia content on the web and misrendering scores of other pages, including some rather odd errors with the UBB BBS software. Of course chat controls will no longer work either.

Worthless piece of shit. No wonder only 8% of the internet community uses it. Besides, IE 7 is nice and tight, with tabbed browsing, every bit as fast in the rendering, far more accurate to boot considering that the overwhelming majority of the web is programmed for IE.

No, best to stick with IE with SP 2 and Microsoft Antispyware Beta. The perfect balance between security and functionality, unlike the anally retentive Firefox.

And yes, I have both.

Location: Costa Frick'n Rica! It's Official - FireFox is goin bu-bye! I cant stand it anymore.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well after a good almost 2 years of loving and promoting FireFox, i am no longer using it, nor promoting it - i have read many threads of other feeling the same way - i know some people have no issues @ all - i was one, but no any more.

ever since 1.04 the program seems to have done nothing but gotten worse and worse and there is no sign of improvement, it is like since they are getting bigger, they are going the IE route of releasing buggy, not completle software or something......

i have done and tried everything, but the issue are presitent! and dont go away.

lets get started

I have used FireFox on approximatly 6 diff systems - ranging from Xp / XP SP1 / Xp Sp2 / Window Server 2003 / Sererv 2003 SP1 - laptops, desktops - some with IDE / SATA / SCSI drives - 512 of ram - 1g - P4 2ghz upto a p4 3.0 @ 3.6 as well as dual opteron and duel xeon' rigs.

I experience these problems on all systems - many have been freshly formated and FireFox the only thing on them for weeks on end until i do something with them.

issues:

* Opening FireFox takes approx. 30-45 seconds to open and causes EXCESSIVE harddrive activity reading.
* opening 1 FireFox and opening 4-6 tabs jacks up memory usage to 50-60mb of system ram - having 15+ tabs open i am looking @ around 180MB of ram usage
* Opening a 2nd instance of FireFox while one is open (2 seperate windows) the 2nd window is missing my bookmarks - i have to close both to get them to come back - this only happens sometimes.
* When right clicking on a link to open in new tab - firefox pauses and causes the entire system to stop responding to anything until it is done (10-20seconds) - this happens more often then not.
* typing in a web site address to have FireFox tell me the site is not availible - do a search for the site in google, clikc the link - works fine
* I highlight a single word, yet when i move my mouse it continues to highlight items even thought ia m not holding the mouse down

All of these problem have come to the point i am so annoyed and frustrated as the way i surf web sites all of the above cause me much annoyance i just hard shut off my PC and walk away, i think i have anger issue as last night i was ready to toss my Dell 2004FPW off my desk cause all of the above kept happening over and over and over!

So, how many of you also experience the same issue? i have used the bug reporting system for all of the above - but seems no resolutions yet

Is there a plug-in for tabbed browsing on IE or do i need to wait for IE7 oficially ?

Yes! I need to get Firefox! Thank you! Finally people who agree with me. I've had enough trouble with all those Windows users out there!

MSN Chat won't work because it's an ActiveX control. Three quarters of the multimedia and interactive content on the internet today is ActiveX controls, yet Firefox refuses to support them. They do some multimedia support through crappy plugins such as quicktime, but quicktime sucks.

Where did you get this statistics ? 75% ? Why not 99% while you're making up statistics ? And why did you pretend chat doesn't work when it's plain false ? What's your interest in attacking Mozilla ?

MSN Chat doesn't work. I know. I own an MSN chat room.

I hate Mozilla. I've used it with Linux and Windows over the course of several years and I can't stand it, although it is still installed on My server, mostly for testing My website for compatibility. It's not at all what all the fanboys have it cracked up to be. I've been witness to tons of complaints about it as well, including numerous and often times severe exploits. IE7 is every bit as good if not better.

Location: St. Louis I just set myself up with a new pc at work and I elected to not install firefox on it. I plan on sticking with IE at work. A number of reasons. Despite the security concerns with IE, the browser sure opens a hell of a lot faster than any other and web browsing is smoother. I also noticed firefox becoming slower and slower to execute and open. Yes I cleared the cache and history. Also became annoyed with the memory leak whenever I opened a media player file. Most of my browsing at work is pretty safe territory. I visit sites such as local newpaper, cnn, [H], vendor sites to download drivers. So I've elected to go with IE at work.
My home pc however I do tend to become a bit more "adventerous" with my web browsing and I will still be using firefox when I know I'll likely come across some questionable sites.

FireFox has been open on this PC for several days now and with only 2 Tabs open I am using 103MB. No it isn't a big deal to close it and reload but my point is the memory leak shouldn't be there to begin with.

My first question would be regarding Firefox or any other browser than IE, is how does it intergate with other MS programs.. I run MSOffice Pro, Win2000Pro (Till I add a new 120GB HS HD then I'll upgrade to XP Pro), Office2000, MS Publisher etc.. Any change of browser has to wotk with what I require for my professional uses.

Hmmmm . . . well my first question about your first question is how can a browser integrate with any other program? All a browser does is display a stream of information coming through your serial port or on occasion displaying a graphics or text (html) file on your disk drive. So why should which browser you use make a difference?

But this is easy enough to test -- download Firefox, set it as your default browser and try it; if it doesn't "integrate" somehow with other programs then you can always delete it and you'll default back to IE. But what will probably happen instead is you'll find yourself browsing the pages of extensions after adding Adblock, mouse gestures and resize search box and cursing Bil Gates for ever convincing you that integrating the browser with other programs could possibly be an issue.

Yeah, setting your default browser to Firefox will have the same effect as having your default browser set to IE.

I guess it all comes down to personal preference. If you are looking for an alternative, there is always Opera as well, which I also have.

Operas changed for the better since the last time I used it. But, I do miss my Forecastfox extremely! I wish there was a way to integrate it to Opera. I hate leaving my browser just to check the weather.

Here are more comments from FF users:

Join Date: Sep 2003 Firefox 1.5 still stalls on me on some pages randomly...CPU use goes up to 90% and i have to end the process and restart. Doesn't happen alot so not a big deal, but it doesn't hold a candle to Opera 8.

The only thing i can't live without is the web developer, switch proxy, and adblock extensions....otherwise Opera is just the better program.

Shit I dont know, I gave up computer programming when we used to write programs in DOS. As long as the damned thing does what I want it to the puter can be run by a family of mice for all I care.
