Great conversation can be like foreplay. The more it goes on, the more you want. It can be an exchange of ideas or it can be a subtle interplay of banter with underlining nuance that you hope he will catch. It is the art of flirting and being fluid; being able to morph from discusssing the latest book, movie, play, political situation to laughing about a silly reference.

Intellectual discourse, using wordplay, verbal and witty banter is something I live for; sadly, I don't encounter it very often. I do with my family, a few of my friends (you can be friends with some people who don't possess all your levels) and hardly ever with any men that I meet. When I have had that level of conversation with a man, then we ended up dating.

I have, interestingly enough been able to have some amazing conversations with some people online and on the phone from Collarme. Tragically, they all live far away!! But the communication is there and those conversations are quite sustaining.

The most delicious thing is when someone "gets" me and my humor and intelligence. I like to feel "gotten" on many levels and when the "getting" is mutual, is a delight.

What makes good conversation? Have you ever had one with someone that just floored you?

What makes good conversation? Having one with someone who not only listens, but also hears what is said. And having a conversation with someone who cares for others opinion, but without forsaking their own.
That really rocks.

Level,

Sometimes I wish I had more 'depth' and I was having these enlightening conversations about politics, world peace, etc.  But the truth is -- some of the best (and most memorable) conversations I have are at Grandmas, with my sisters, drinking coffee and sometimes crying over things we cannot change.

Hi tricia. Now, one does not necessarily lack "depth" if they don't have an interest in certain subjects, in my opinion. And some of my happiest moments have been with those I care for, just talking about life, and the everyday things that make up so much of it.

I must say, though, that 'weather talk' bores me half to death .

Haha, it's true.. weather talk does tend to be interesting only to gardeners and farmers. =)  If you think rambling about rain is bad, you should stick around for the compost discussion. ;)

 - it does hold an interest for photographers too - I kinda like good verbalisation about the merits of precipitation.

Oh, I bet...a nice misty soft rain, or layers of fluffy new snow... fog. =)

Now if you wanted to take pictures of my compost pile, we'd be set! (lol)

To me, a good conversation is starting out knowing what im talking about, and ending up challenging my own views.

Good conversation is the exchange of self.
