ORIGINAL: NorthernGent quote:
ORIGINAL: Level "Why Men Don't Talk" thread. Mandy fell out with Sally because Sally's and Mandy's boss made Sally a cup of tea but didn't make Mandy one, and Mandy has gone on strike in protest"....."really?, well, never mind, at least Sally got a cup of tea, and Mandy's getting a rest, every cloud has a silver lining....so, any plans for this evening?". Men do talk, but we don't want to relive the working day - that time has gone - nor do we want to know the ins and outs of office tittle-tattle (at least I don't, anyway); go down the pub and you'll see hundreds of men chatting away for hours, as happy as pigs in shit. We tend to bond/talk with our ilk because of shared interests. On the other hand, were a woman to venture beyond Sally's cup of tea and into the realms of discourse, then I'd chat with her 'til the cows come home - but not down the pub, that's a place for men to get away from women. Actually, I know plenty of women whose idea of a conversation does NOT entail a detailed obsessed rendition of their day, you know, NorthernGent. I declare you guilty of blatant gender generalisation [;)] . I know a conversation's good because it 'feels' good; its quality stems from the fluidity of the energy flow, regardless of the subject matter. It's creative: it's not called 'the art of conversation' for nothing! I must say, though, that 'weather talk' bores me half to death [:D].
