does everyone share the different types of collars also, or not

No.  As far as i'm concerned, there is only 1 "type" of collar.  That's the one my Master fastened around my neck when i became His property.  There are many different styles of collars such as, leather, steel, locking, spikey, studded, etc. and there are also many different uses and meanings that people give to a collar and that is up to the individual, just as there are many different meanings and purposes that people give to a ring or a tatoo, etc. but, to me, there is only 1 type of collar.  That's the type that is worn around the neck.

With little experiance and no practical knowledge of how to do it...I do like the idea of rewiring a dogs shock collar so the electrodes run down to a lower part of the body. (inner thigh...or that general area[sm=evil.gif]) Then any noise (like moans or screams for instance) picked up by the mic on the collar should produce an interesting result. [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m28.gif[/image]

"Mmmm, today pet we're going to learn the meaning of silence"

Unfortunately I'm a bad man who doesn't play fair, [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m17.gif[/image] I'd have to include a blindfold, ice (away from the electrodes I think), maybe a cane, and probably a number of large phallic items.
OK, so I'm not that mean. I'm all lovable and cuddly...honest....

The antibark  collar is what that is . their is another dog collar mostly used to train hunting dogs. It works in a similar fashion but instead of using a mic  to trigger the shock ,  you actually have a remote. In the old style of this type of collar, you would insert a chip, numbered 1-5 into the collar. 1 was a small shock and 5 was a jolt. Now they are a little fancier, a dial on the remote lets you increase or decrease the strength as needed.  A "5 chip"  as we call it, will cause a pointer to do a back flip.

You can get those collars at most  hunting outfitters. they range from 1/2 -2 miles usually which  can create some very interesting scenerios. And they dont require a mic or the viberations from your voicebox  so you can adapt them to be completely unnoticed in public.

As for the OPs question: I dont really do the whole collaring process. I use to. But as I got older, I simplified alot of things about this lifestyle. To be honest the formalities became to much of a hassle.

If im doing my "job" a  sub/slave should never doubt our relationship. I would only collar if the slave in question truely desired  the formality  and  it fit my defination of a collar, which is ownership.

All other collars,  I see as overused. Especially online. I see alot of "under protection" collars on here and in other  places . This has always baffled me. Who are you protecting from? Their is a delete/block/ignore function  on most boards/sites/chats.  Furthermore, if a sub needs protection, it makes me think that she isnt capable of making adult decisions by herself. Which to me  sounds like she isnt ready for a relationship.

Now in a poly household I could see a use of different types of  collars.

Elorin -> RE: How many kinds of collar and what they mean (12/2/2007 5:57:46 PM)

For me, there are stages of relationship, and uses of collars.
I use collars sometimes when I go to a play party with a friend, and the friend and I want everyone to know that he/she is in service to me for the night, or is "mine" for the night, or we don't want the friend bugged b/c they are a newbie, etc.

I use a collar to help the feeling of a sub being in service when they are at my home. I put it on when they get here and remove it when they leave. (As in, dating each other on a vanilla level.)

When the relationship goes from getting to know each other and considering "are we compatible" to a more "definitely in a relationship together", I like to take the sub out and pick out a collar together. The sub can wear it when not around me, but definitely wears it in my presence. The sub pays for the collar, the collar his his/hers. (Like going from dating to a "boyfriend/girlfriend" level for vanillas.)

When it gets to the point where I want to say - you are MY submissive, then I buy the collar and determine when the sub wears it. (Exclusive boyfriend girlfriend, or an engagement kind of level.)

When it gets to the point of wanting to say - hey, we are committed, willing to live together, etc (think marriage) then I make the collar with my own hands.

mmm shock collars... wait - what was the question?! We have one collar, the one I wear all of the time, that signifies I am his. We do have play collars to hook me up for various nerfarious deeds.

I've used a protection collar online at various times.  It serves my goal to keep unwanted pm's down.  The fewer the better.
A lot of people make big fuss over the hit the x, ect.  My question is this - if the protection collar keeps those pm's down (less stress for me) -why not use it?
Yes, I can take care of myself - but you know sometimes it is nice to know  I have a friend out there who can help keep my stress levels down.
And I really don't give a rats ass if someone else approves or don't - and will more than likely tell you so if you bring it up in a public chat room.

I only know of 3- a collar of protection, which means, basically that someone specific is looking out for you (like a Domme/Dom friend of a sub.) a collar of consideration which has something like the same significanse an engagement ring and a collar of ownership which means you are owned by a Domme/Dom.

pettingdragons -> RE: How many kinds of collar and what they mean (5/14/2008 8:55:58 AM)

there are as many collars and opinions of collars as there are debates about submissive vs. slaves....its all in what the Domiant / Master wants ....if there are collars for every mood, or just a standard one....girl wonders why people insist on debating on something that is a personal preference...like wearing a white skirt with black boots....its a personal opinion...just this girls two cents...pettingdragons**Master Dragon's considered slave**

pinkwind -> RE: How many kinds of collar and what they mean (5/14/2008 9:11:41 AM)

For us there have been two collars, one a good, sturdy play collar with fixing rings, and the other, my locked steel collar, the outward symbol of our innermost feelings for each other as Master and slave.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: How many kinds of collar and what they mean (5/14/2008 9:18:42 AM)

Wehave only 2 collars. Formal/every day (Fox has an everyday one, Angel has a formal one he only wears  when I insist since he doesnt deal well with the sensations of having something around his neck) and play. The play collars are varied and depend on what we are getting up to at the time. The formal and everyday ones were when they were taken and officially owned by me. I never have bothered with any of the other collars.

I like play collars... for play... small period of time, they are equipment... that's it..

and then just collars -- to me there is only one.. no separations and gradations of them... and they are not, and will never resemble a wedding ring for me, they are collars... they symbolize a commitment but they are not at all like a wedding ring...

if  I put one around someone's neck, I mean it...

atypicalsub -> RE: How many kinds of collar and what they mean (5/14/2008 9:53:05 AM)

Speaking just for myself here, as a sub with very little real experience to date.

I understand that some people see the collar much like a wedding ring.  Even if you do, why do you feel other collars somehow reduce that meaning?  People who give wedding rings normally proceed it by an engagement ring, and friendship rings are not at all uncommon.  These do not in any way distract from the commitment the wedding ring symbolizes.

So far the only collar I have worn was a training collar.  A friend who has a dungeon agreed to give me some basic training.  He explained that once he put the collar on me I was to address him as Sir and behave as a submissive according to certain rules he gave me.  When he removed the collar then we were just friends again and I could speak freely and question him on anything that had come to mind during the training session.  That symbolism was extremely useful to me.  It was provided a physical sensation that constantly reminded me of the role I was in.  When I could question him and when I could not.  Without that I doubt my train session would have gone nearly as well.

I do hope that one day I will find someone that I can total trust and love who will give me that ultimate collar.  The one that symbolized a lifetime commitment that I will always serve and E will always protect.  Until I find that person, I do expect there will be other collars before then.  Mostly I expect training collars of some kind, when I agree to serve someone but we have yet to know each other well enough to determine if it will be a permanent arrangement.

sensual,

As outlined below, there is only one kind of collar and that is possession. All others are just sorta kind things.

I remember one guy on this site talking about a type of collar that is rarely mentioned.  A finger collar.  Also known as a ring.

SirsPetAdrina -> RE: How many kinds of collar and what they mean (5/14/2008 10:37:03 AM)

the version of the lifestyle that i live is that of the old style from europe and we have well from what i understand from Sir and Sir crusher is that there are only 2 types of collars for us. that is there is a house collar which seems that it can be from the dom that assists in training or trains you and then there is THE COLLAR which is the one from ur Dom.

I takes five levels of submission and 3600 online experience points to achieve the "Old Europe Style" Collar...

A little bit too much you say?

Well, I haven't mentioned that it allows you to cast Fireball and Charm 3 times a day...
