My view is, there is little prospect of anyone "getting clean" on long term basis, unless the social, emotional or economic issues which drove them to self medication in the first place, are resolved.

Yes, some who become addicted became so by messing around perhaps, but the vast majority I suspect - and most definitely all those whom I have met, became addicted because of poor life circumstances, a history of abusive relationships, psychological neuroses or combinations of those elements, for which the use of their chosen substance provided relief by way of changing their perceptions.

It is not a case of lack of or breach of morality which drives people to abuse substances - unless we are to hold that being poor, getting abused and having psychological issues is proof of immorality. And to be honest, I had rather hoped that we had escaped that sort of Judeo-Christian philosophy.

I didn't know that Heroin, Crack, Cocaine, Meth, PCP, and other Class I substances where quality drugs. After an addict gets there fix, how long are they required to stay before being allowed back with the public. Surely they can't be allowed to just leave as they please. Think of all the security issuses this facility would face. Most of these addicts will continue to demand more and harrass all the staff. You can't allow someone like that to keep comming back. Once they're kicked out for good, it's back to square one for them.

Not to mention, who wants there business, fancy hotel, condo, apartment, or home next to one of these dope giving facilities? Seeing addicts lotterying around and doped up can't be good for business nor property value.

On a last note, the choice to feed someone there addiction means that we have given up on rehabilitating the person. Giving in means that we give up on hope. All we have to look forward to is seeing these addicts doped up for the rest of there lives. The person that we once knew will never have the chance to be the same ever again.

So where is the real bennifit for you, me, society, the addict, and everyone else?
