Remember playing this game as a kid? Well if you are a kid today in some school districts...you cant play it. Several school districts have banned contact sports and any physical activity where one child chases another.

You know we are living in a country that is having a crisis with childhood obesity yet we have dumbass parents, teachers, and school administrators telling kids they arn't allowed to play sports.

What a joke our schools are today...

At some point in life, you are going to be "It." The sooner you learn the better. I was never the fastest nor the cleverist at hiding. However, TAG, taught me how to keep a few tricks up my sleeve and I never had to cry when I became "It." When push came to shoove, I learned to bulk and stand up.

If you think banning tag is bad, get ready to say good bye to Red Rover and Duck Duck Goose.

The madness of banning such games has to deal with psychological effects. Many people can recall there child hood of always being "It" and never able to catch anyone. It began a cycle of being picked on and laughed at and becoming the sucker who takes all the crap. There are some who just can't bare the thought of seeing there kids going through the same thing. That is the aurgument for banning TAG.

When is it best to learn that you can't win them all? When you loose, you can come back stronger? My answer is, the sooner the better. These simple games are not for exercise. They are building blocks for lessons down the road.

They did that here in the town I live in.
Thank God they did. The kids were falling down and scraping their knees. Can you imagine that?

At my niece's school they have banned any talk during lunch period. The logic being: If a student chokes and the other students are talking, the choker would not be heard. Hence the choking student could die.

It's amazing the level of stupidity that our educators are inflicting on the our youth.

::in overprotective parent mood::  but, but BUT, little suzie's going to get her feelings hurt!!!1!

Yeah, tag was a tactical, guerrilla based affair where I grew up... you learned to play smart or you would be it for the rest of the day.

I forgot where it happened but a 6th grader gave a hug to a best friend of his (who happened to be a girl) during a lunch period. The principal saw it and not only was the boy suspended, but the DA is prosecuting the boy for sexual harrassment.

Most public school administrations have become fascist and are on a powertrip. I dont think I could put a child in today's school system. Its a farce.

Was someone sued over a tag injury?

I loved freeze tag as a kid.  Hell, I'd probably play it again right now.  If it, well, you know, wasn't about half past 1 AM.

"Tag?"
When we were kids we'd be "slushing" behind cars in winter.
We'd skip school, hop a freight train and sneak into Fenway Park to watch a ballgame in spring and fall.
We made Tarzan swings and kids would fall off them 20 feet and break their arms.
We'd go door to door collecting money for the "Boy Scouts" and spend it on candy.
"Tag?"

Hell, I slushed as a grown man in NY (quite drunk of course, but it reminded me of the Halcyon days)

We used to dive out of the tops of ancient willows in a rudimentary bungee jumping style and grab the weeping branches on the way down, that FUCKIN HURT when you missed--- and usually took a day or two to screw up the courage to do it again.

Scrape your knee be damned!!!!

They banned tag and dodge ball in my son's school. They said it encouraged aggression and dominance in boys and of course sited chance of injury, any kind of physical play that puts one child in position to lose or have bigger/stronger kids "win" is banned. You get suspended and can be expelled for touching another child. Edited again to add: they call it the "Fair Play Doctrine" and parents and students have to sign the fair play doctrine every year on the first day of school.

So, boys are supposed to be aggresive.
What the hell's wrong with those teachers/principles?
What, they want the boys to be Hair Dressers when they grow up?

If they hair dressed other boys such as myself, they would find themselves in dire circumstance indeed.  It would disenfranchise a whole new generation in another nefarious way.

Wonder how they would have felt about the games I played as a kid.

Sinergy

p.s. got to check the statutes of limitations before I start listing them.

No, it is quite inevitable.  What is amazing is the level of stupid educators in policy making positions.

So I go to my doctor to discuss my injury.  He is asking me what I should be doing to heal.  We discuss it for a while and finally I look at him and go "Ya know, you are the expert here.  What do you suggest I do?"

There are people who know how to educate children, perhaps the policy makers should actually listen to them
for a change.

Yeah I just went to my educators meeting. No touching of the children allowed. I for one, ignore the rule. Let'um fire me. Hugs and pats on the back are important enough to take the risk.
