FelinePersuasion -> How do those of you who need to loose weight, or have partners that need to make it fun? (8/2/2007 6:28:25 PM)

seeking to loose a bunch of weight this summer,  I have enrolled in a weight managment class and will be taking that in september, The problem's not eating to much, Ie pigging out, or over eating, , or to much junk, I don't eat enough, and when I do eat it's not the greatest, so this class will hopefully teach us how to manage our nutrition.

I loved amusement parks, I hope to loose enough weight to fit on the rides at Vallejo and great america! I like video games, and an x of mine tried to get me into DDR, because it's a great game for pysical actvity, dancing and hopping about and such, but I never got too into the game.

I am considering jump roping right now, cause it's great arobically, I just don't know with a bad back and ankles that jump rope is the best thing to do, but it's sure portable lol. The rope is cheap, it's small it packs up easily and you can jump rope almost anywhere. in fact if you wanted to make it kind of like a sadistic game you could jump rope at play parties lol, make it like a bdsm game you know, like this sub is naughty and hasn't done anything I ask so she must jump 100 jumps as punishment hehehe. Perhaps even flog her while she attempts to jump, once she can do 100, just to make it more difficult!

Weight loss is a difficult subject, and making it fun can be hard. I want to incorperate exercise and bdsm together, you know, perhaps in like an example I just mentioned, and for a reward I don't do food, I'd do bdsm interaction.

like 10 spankings per pound, or maybe being flogged while walking on a tread mill, if I get to lazy here comes some whacks to keep me motivated. I joked with a friend once a dom should come paddle my ass down the road, because most days I don't go for walks like I should lol.

Sports are still the best way I know to lose weight (at least, fat weight- the overall weight may not fall that much, or even rise, as a result of new muscle, but you'll still look better).

Soccer's a personal favorite, and a good one, since you run a lot in it.  (Many other sports involve relatively long periods of standing still or so for players.  Such as, baseball, which.. well, let's just say no one gets tired out playing baseball.)

I used to play   in girl scout  little league, I didn't much care for baseball then, and I don't care for sports now. I am not pysically capable of sports and high impact activities at this moment. Walking  takes to much out of me at this moment. I tired extreamly easily,  Plus sports bore me and w*ouldn't be something I consider fun,, nor does it involve bdsm, and the whole point of the idea was to have fun , engaging in bdsm, while becoming fit enough to move on to more demanding things.

If you like to dance and you like music with a beat, jazzercise can be great fun. They do lots of rewards like teeshirts, water bottles and gymbags. Guys are welcome and there is plenty of positive feedback without weighins and measuring--you feel better, look better and your attitude about yourself improves.

A couple of years ago, I needed to lose about 15 pounds.  I just made a few mild modifications to my diet.  I mostly gave up sugar and processed flour.  The best exercise for me is swimming.  Of course that really means swimming, not just mildly splashing around in a pool.  It is easier on your muscles than running, and you are cooled off constantly in the water.  It is intolerably hot in the summers here for strenuous, outdoor exercise.

Got a couple ideas for you.  One, I bike everywhere I can.  It builds up your stamina very easily.
Second thing I've started is cooking for myself.  This means finding ingredients, cooking them properly, etc.  Which is a lot more effort than just tossing it in the microwave for 60 seconds.  Typically it's healthier, too, regardless of what you make.  Check out cooks.com for some ideas.  I combine the two.  I bike to the store for what I need and cook it at home.
If you can stand to go to the gym, do some weight training with your aerobics.  The more muscle mass you have the more your body will need to consume to run it.

I do not know if you have a dog or not, but taking a dog on a walking routine works well, because dogs love it and they will motivate you and let you know when it is time to go.
A fun thing I would like to do is Geo-Caching, I think it is called. There are a few web sites that let you know where hidden treasures are and you use a global positioning device to track them down. It is normally a tupper ware box with trinkets in it, but the thrill is in the chase, and it keeps your mind interested in exercising. Some are hidden in big parks. I metal detect so I get my treasure hunting exercise in that way.

One of the things i do is turn housework into exercise...turn up the stereo and just dance around cleaning...makes the housework more tolerable as well as giving you an aerobic workout *nod*  The trick is to not stop until you're done, move from one chore to another...bend to pick up ONE item of dirty clothing, stand up, bend and pick up the next, etc....clean door frames stretching to the top and bending to the bottom, power sweeping/mopping/vaccuming (lol)...anyway, something that needs to be done gets done and you get some exercise doing it *smile*

Bike riding, which has already been mentioned, is really excellent but I think very few will lose weight from excercise alone. It has to be done in such regular large doses.

The answer is.........diet.
No ifs. No buts.

sleazybutterfly -> RE: How do those of you who need to loose weight, or have partners that need to make it fun? (8/3/2007 5:20:55 AM)

Walking, biking, dancing....you can turn walking into fun.  I will go downtown and window shop, I just can't stop for long, but you would be surprised how far you walk without knowing it.  I also have my doggies, they love to walk, so when it's not too hot we all go out in the evening.  It's more about just getting your body moving, that is how your body prefers to be.  Sitting in front of the tv, or riding in cars all the time is not really what we were built for.  That, along with an abundance of food is what has made so many of us fat.

I also had to change the way I ate.  Some can do it in a gradual way, but I am one of those that has to do it all the way in, or not at all.  Cut out all bad fat, fast food, fried stuff, and meat (that is my preference).

I eat yogurt (activia) that helps the tummy, veggies, fruit..lots of both, it's a great time of year for that stuff and it's pretty cheap (check out farmers markets).

If you take in less than you burn off..you will lose.  I know it sounds pretty simple, fact is...it really is that simple.

I've heard encouraging things about the pedometer/10,000 steps program, where your focus is merely to increase the number of steps you use every day by parking farther away, avoiding the elevator etc.

That's actually one of the easier things to do to increase your daily exercise that people sometimes just don't think of...and it works...it also reduces stress levels when looking for a "close by" parking space *grin*

SeeksOnlyOne -> RE: How do those of you who need to loose weight, or have partners that need to make it fun? (8/3/2007 6:59:56 AM)

well, this thread made me get on the scales....and i have lost 11 pounds since july 1st....

i am looking at it as a lifestyle change....i do like subinmaine said-and dance to housework....i have also started concentrating on eating more whole foods......paying attention to when i am really hungry.......and this new puppy is going to be helpful, cause i find me playing with him a lot too.

i quit using the clicker and get up and change the tv channels.......make a point to "fidget" while sitting........bounching my legs or something.......

argh its difficult and slow, but i realized at 45, being diagnosed with pre diabetes, i aint no spring chicken any more.......

good luck to you......

mypyramid.gov is an awesome site......

Pilates. Since you've mentioned back and ankle problems. Sometimes even walking can aggrivate those areas. Pilates was created for dancers with injuries. It's not for everyone who has back problems, just for most. There's no stress on the ankles either. It works on your core and will help stengthen your back so you'll be able to stand up straighter with less effort and walk further.

If you get one of the starter pilates machines (think they sell them on late night TV or HSN sometimes) I'm sure there's all kinds of kinky things you can think up while you're using it. One might be while you're doing leg circles in the straps, squeeze those butt cheeks with that butt plug in. Of course someone can be attending you while you do this and push it back in before it pops out <smile>

Was this more on the lines of your OP?

Having just had a crisis over this myself recently- keep standards reasonable.  One pound a week is GOOD progress.  Slow long term weight loss is the best way to have long term success.  This is a life change- yes that is depressing in some ways, but it's necessary for fat people who have had their bodies become physically used to being fat for awhile.

Keep food to reasonable portions, focus on calories and health, and do some good exercise (for YOUR level) frequently.  Do a mix of things to get your heartbeat up AND get your muscles developing.

It's ok to fall off the wagon as long as you get back on. And believe that the long term struggle is WORTH sacrificing that snack.

slaveish -> RE: How do those of you who need to loose weight, or have partners that need to make it fun? (8/3/2007 4:18:18 PM)

I'm at an interesting (read difficult) time in the aging process: midlife. My body wants to hang onto every ounce of fat it possibly can. M was instrumental in making me more self-aware, and he made me pay more attention to what my body was doing (or, rather, not doing).

First, keep a food diary. Write down EVERYTHING you eat. It will surprise you. For instance, I was compelled to eat what was left on my UM's plates rather than throw the food away. Very bad, and I didn't even realize I was doing it or how often I did it.

Drink plenty of WATER. Diet drinks are ok, just not bunches of them per day. The caffeine can make you retain water and can also throw your metabolism out of whack.

Stay away from canned food (vegetables, soup, ready-made pasta sauce) because they are loaded with sodium and have no nutritive value. If you eat meat, eat fresh meat that isn't injected with broth (sodium again).

Do not do fad diet things like removing carbs from your diet. Figure out what the proper carbs are (fruit and vegetables) and avoid the bad (bread, potatoes, rice). Fad diets will pull the fat off quickly for a short amount of time. Go for a slow long-term change of eating and exercise habit.

Get sugar free fudgesicles and have one when you have a raging chocolate craving or sweet tooth. Get sugar free yogurt for the same reason (and the yogurt is loaded with good stuff like calcium). Use Splenda in place of sugar.

Eat only when you are hungry. Look at food as fuel, not as fun, comfort, or boredom-buster.

Last, in "dieting", treat yourself. If you cannot live without a piece of chocolate pie or a good hunk of Hershey's chocolate, have it. Just don't have it every day. Limit it to a couple "special" days a month. Learn about the healthy foods you already love (like watermelon, for me - it is yummy, sweet, and also a diuretic).

As for exercise, Pilates (as someone mentioned) is great, the balance ball is good. I like to do fun things to mix it up, like belly dancing (this will take some working up to because it requires some pretty good stamina and strength). Get some strength-training videos ("I Want That Body" by Tami Lee Webb (of Buns / Abs of Steel Fame)) is excellent, quick, challenging, and has a couple different levels for beginners and advanced workouts.

Good luck. It's not easy but you can do it if you want to!

By stopping overeating and doing something to burn more calories that you take in.

99.99% of people who burn more calories than they consume lose weight.
