Dnomyar -> lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 12:14:58 PM)

I consider the lifestyle as a form of roleplaying. Some consider it as serious as vanilla lifestyle. How do you view it?

mistoferin -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 12:20:56 PM)

I use the term lifestyle because that is the most easily understood terminology we have. I am not playing a role, I am who I am....every minute of every day.

LadyPact -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 12:27:05 PM)

I take it as seriously as I take Myself, because it's who I am.

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 12:28:46 PM)

as with mistoferin and LadyPact, this is who and what i am. it's not about playing a role.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 12:29:35 PM)

As with the others, it's who I am.  That means sometimes really serious, and sometimes not serious at all.

RavenMuse -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 12:30:43 PM)

If I even attempted vanilla I'd deserve an Oscar. This is who I am, how I am wired and in a relationship taking control is how I express the care I feel.I don't just need D/s.... If I have a fullfilling relationshp at all I have to have a compatable M/s dynamic.

Serious? Well its either M/s or start taking in cats and find some way to be content living the batchelor life. Lucky for Me I found My girl and don't need the cats [:D]

onestandingstill -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 12:33:19 PM)

For some it's a role, for others like me it's who I always was.
The only difference is when I found the lifestyle at 40 I finally had names to describe who I am and others who can understand it.
Regardless of if it's a hobby for you or your way of life it's still all good as long as you keep it and your intentions honest.

i wish it was as easy as role-playing...but i am with the other replies, aside from lacking experience - it is who i am and who i will become~

imthatacheyouhav -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 12:34:54 PM)

when you say the life style do you mean just the "play" aspect?....or are you refering to the relationship between the Dom/sub being a roleplay type of relationship only.

My ownership of and relationship with my slave in an intregal part of my life. Ds allows me to act in ways that feel entirely comfortable and normal for me without the necessities of vanilla nicities.

MySweetSubmssive -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 12:37:18 PM)

It is a part of myself, but only a part.

Sometimes I want to play someone like a lute, fuck with his head and hurt him, sometimes I don't.  When I am in the headspace, I want it to be from deep down inside someone.  I love men with slave-like characteristics.  Roleplaying doesn't work for me, but I can't say that dominant is what I am.  I feel very much in an in-between state.

Vanilla? role play? not in this lifetime or the next,ITS a very serious way of life for us as well as others...bounty

huni -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 12:40:11 PM)

this is me how i am inside the role play is for r/l

OsideGirl -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 12:41:03 PM)

Personally, I believe that whether you fulfill the Dominant or submissive role, it's because of who you are. That said, I believe that there are other things within that dynamic that are "roleplaying". Personally, I believe that "consentual slavery" doesn't exist. It's fulfillment of a fantasy within the D/s dynamic.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

MasterGremlin -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 12:45:56 PM)

While you are getting mostly replies that this is a way of life vs something you do when your in the mood for some play I think that the majority of people that view and post on sites like this it is a periodic diversion for them. This isn't a judgement on anyone just how the world works. If you were to go to a hiking forum you would find a core group of hardcore hikers and a majority that go out every few weekends to enjoy the outdoors.

Just for the record, it's not a lifestyle for us or play. It just is. We both live this way on a continuous (sp?) basis.

LaTigresse -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 1:07:19 PM)

Vanilla is roleplay for me. Regardless of wether I am in a relationship or not, this is what I am.

darkinshadows -> RE: lifestyle how serious (4/26/2007 1:08:28 PM)

I don't view it as a 'lifestyle' because that feels like its a fashion accessory.

But BDSM isn't roleplay for me, it doesn't just define me or my relationship, but it is part of who I am.  Role play signifies something that isn't real or truthful but pretend, and although role play can exist within it (ie -  medicalplay in a sense can be a roleplay if someone is a doctor and patient - or rape play - which can be taking on defining roles) BDSM is not about roles persay.
*edit to add that BDSM isn't just about being serious, it is about having fun and a laugh too.  It's just about living.
Peace and Rapture
