I would think, until she gets "submissive woman" tattooed on her forehead, that would be something that One would have to get to know her a bit for.   In the OP, she discussed age as a physical characteristic, rather than an inner trait.

edited to be a little less of a bitch.... but not fully *wink*

Or unless, say, she had a profile on a social networking website that mentioned she was submissive, and was contacted through there. Not that i know of any websites like that, or the OP was talking about one, or anything.
(shoulda gone bitchy... makes the zingers more satisfying!)

Because one is a physical trait and one is an emotional/personality trait. Big difference.

Why, because physical traits are more subject to change than personality traits? Do you really take physical attraction for granted to such a degree that "Mr. Right" isn't even supposed to notice what you look like? Again, we're talking about initial contact here... why not start out a potential relationship with "an ace in the hole", so to speak?

Genuinely curious here... i've always thought it would be kinda cool to be the object of someone's desire for physical or fetishistic reasons, so the immensely hostile reactions that women have to that never really make sense to me

...dave

Because physical traits change more than personality traits. 6yrs ago I was the same person I am now personality wise. But my boobs were a cup size smaller and I was almost 100lbs lighter. Who's to say that  6yrs from now I won't have a different hair color, a different bra size, and  be 100 heavier or even 100 lbs lighter? And of course age changes all the time.

I understand the need for physical attraction...but I want him attracted to the WHOLE package because the details of that package are subject to change. I know for me "physical attraction" has very little to do with looks. I've dated people who were "movie star pretty" and I've dated guys who where short, balding, and weighed 300lbs. Guess which one I find more attractive physically? The 2nd one, because there was something in his inner confidence and dominance that shone through in his expression and made him sexy as hell. He also had the prettiest eyes I've ever seen and big thick strong arms that made me quiver :)

I want to know that a man's physical attraction to me is not limited to one trait. I do want him to have an overall attraction, but not in a fetishistic fashion that focuses so much on one particular trait that that if I were to lose that thing, he wouldn't be interested anymore.

I get a lot of mail from guys who have a fetish for my waist length blonde hair. I could change that in a heartbeat. Would they still be interested in me? I'm not so sure. I get mail saying "I  only date bbws because I have a fetish for them." Ok, so if I lose the weight is he still going to be attracted to me? Losing the weight IS on the agenda after all.  Or "I just love your big juicey D cups"...well breast cancer does run in my family. What if I have them removed? Does his interest go away with them? My personality may change in minor ways over time but I believe we pretty much "become more fully who we are" as opposed to actually changing. Personality is definately more lasting.

. I want to know that its my face, my eyes, my smile, the way I walk, etc that he's attracted to as opposed to a number (the number on the scale, on the bra, on my birth certificate) etc.

I usually got  really bad mismatches by lookng at fetishes alone. Not being a masochist-I learned to amend my scurrilous behavior.

Thank you, that was a very detailed and reasonable response.

i just wonder if there may be too many people interpreting preferences (common) as clinical fetishes (rare), and/or selling themselves or their suitors short by assuming that a change in physical attributes would mean the end of any relationship. Or perhaps i just give people too much credit. Odd thought, that.

Although, if you do cut your hair i'll have to put you on ignore

I think preferences are certainly ok...I "prefer" men on the heavy side for example. However, when the first thing a person mentions in their initial email is a physical trait, I suspect that it was said trait which attracted him to me as opposed to a wholistic view point.

*and no plans to cut the hair hehe*
