ORIGINAL: Griswold Here's an interesting link....you don't have to read the whole thing....the first few paragraphs will tell the basics....but here's my question; http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070424/ap_on_sc/habitable_planet Is it time for us to consider "seeding" a future planet (or many)? It's true, this new planet is approx. 120 trillion miles away, which, based on my understanding of current speeds we're capable of, would take something along the lines of 12 gabillion years for us to get a ship to....but...regardless....our solar system is going to give out someday.... Just curious. Fed-Ex, when it absolutely, positively has get there overnight. Sinergy p.s. On a related note, cosmic radiation would kill anybody in a space ship before it actually got out of the solar system. The two approaches I have read to preventing this involve a large magnetic field around the ship, which our current technology could not provide enough power to run, or a 3-6 foot thickness of water enclosing the ship. The latter approach is prohibited by the escape velocity required for to move that much mass.
