One of my good friends is owned by a wonderful Dom.
She seeks her own female sub that may or may not play with her Dom depending on all personalities.
The primary objective is to get her her own female sub not to form a traid.
I often see women who are sub to men but Domme to women. Maybe the trend you're talking about has something to do with that.
I don't often see women who submit to a man who also want to be Domme to another man.
Mind you I know in this world of many choices it must happen sometimes, but I think it's rare.

Possibly people are getting confused with trying to be something that doesn't always suit them. I am a very nice, sweet person. I get told that a lot. Yet, I'm a Dom. I accept myself as I am, I'm a person first. The Dom is part of me but not everything and I don't fit myself into that 24/7 to please anyone. It is my choice to be Dom or just be the sweet grrl most people see me as.

Anyway, I think someone who is a sub gets to the point where they want to be themselves again and step out of that role. But they have the conflict of thinking they are submissive 24/7 and they can't be anything else. They have trapped themselves. Just as being a Switch is not about making a choice to be sub or Dom at any moment. I think we are each ourselves and sub or Dom is an extra element. It could be different with different people you meet. I've met Doms who make me feel very Dom myself and the odd one who makes me feel sub. Most often I am just myself and not either sub or Dom.

Maybe that will make sense to someone. :)

Or maybe the sub is doing it to please their Master/Mistress. What ever makes Mistress happy....even if it envolves being Domme to a sub. I don't see any problem with that.

Sincerly, Sub BalletBob

It really depends on the dynamics.  The most common answer is that the person is a switch- however, if the relationship dynamics are only topping, or playing, or housework, and any authority the sub has comes THROUGH the master, it's just a case of enjoying a toy without actually having authority.

In a similar way that a master can have one slave have some authority and responsibility over another slave he owns- he can have one slave have some authority and responsibility over another slave he doesn't own.

Whether the slave/master consider that relationship to be the slave as the dom to the new slave, or just a fun toy to enjoy is up to them.

I think in more than a few cases, it is a situation in which a sub wants a free ride of the benefits of submission from another without the responsibility of dominance (though they would quickly sneer at any dom who tried to do so), or they are trying to avoid the stigma of labeling themselves a switch and handling that change in perspective.

But sometimes it really is just a case of a slave topping another, or a slave enjoying a toy without dominating, or a slave using the authority from the master.

No offence Ma'am but what you are saying is not  a case of a sub owning another sub, which was the premise of the op but what you are saying here is the Master deligateing some power of one of HIS owned subs to another of HIS owned subs and to me that is just the sub that has that takes the power obaying her Master and not really haveing the power really so she is still beeing a sub becuase she is doing as directed this is not her really beeing Domanent because she wouldnt go and take that power on her own. What the op is saying is a sub owning another sub and that is just another way to say switch while what you are sugesting really isnt.

I used the example of master with multiple subs as an example of how a sub can hold authority without being the dominant in a relationship.

This was only a small part of my post and I related several other examples and dynamics which might also fit.
