im very interested in this lifestyle and have had a short experience but dont understand how online training can work? it doesnt make sense?

Depends on what you are training. Play, certainly not. What we did online while still in a LDR was focus on being open to each other. He began training me to trust him by never responding inappropriately. Same thing he did in person.

Think of it like a correspondence course. You can learn anything online that you can learn from a book. Maybe a bit with a teacher who is focused on your needs and adjusting your curriculum as you go along. But are you ever going to know what it feels like to be bound? To really be controlled by another? Probably not. To be truly effective, I think any "book" learning needs to be accompanied with some hands-on experience.

If you are honest you can learn to obey and follow orders online, a webcam helps.

I've heard it compared to an interactive correspondence course... For myself it was a great way to explore the mental and spiritual aspects of the life, exposing me to things i had never heard of before, much less thought about (i lead a very sheltered life before that..lol). It takes a great deal of communication and an even greater supply of trust to make it work. If one even doubts the other (just like r/l), the relationship, imho, is doomed. i won't argue that it's better than r/l because it's simply not, but..sometimes it's all we can have, and it can serve it's purposes. Online training can be many things, but it is a trust builder, a way to get to know one another, and a chance to broaden your knowledge base before meeting one another in person. You can send someone articles, talk about limits, consensuality, define terms, explore interests. There is a lot that can be done, and a lot that cannot. When I work with someone online I try to find out what their knowledge base is, and then expand it. I set reading assignments and writing assignments. I set tasks to be accomplished with a writing assignment at the end. I recommend books to buy, and do reading and writing assignments from them. If the sub is willing, I assign things like attending a munch, or joining a local Yahoo group. Many different realms can be explored this way. ~E

I'm sure you could find plenty online about how to drive a car; but, reading about it is not really learning or knowing the experience. I also believe that knowing I can connect with a person in real time is the first step. After knowing I am compatible "vanilla" wise, then we can move on to the d/s aspect. I do not learn to trust someone by following their online instructions.

You can learn not be ashamed, or embarassed of yourself, to be open and honest...communication habits can be instilled, and getting to know one another in a non-sexual way can be done as well. It is not easy, but it can work.

in my opinion, online training can only teach so much. you can never really know the Master until you meet them in person. Human interaction is so different than online. seeking

Some people will only ever be able to have online relationships and so for those sensible onliners, they learn to make the most of it. Yes, it could be a dirty old man/woman that are getting their jollies but it could also be a good dominant/submissive that for whatever reason, can only do this online. I hate the wording ‘real’ because people behind the keyboards are real too. I only go for face to face meets, I do not do the online stuff because, simply, I don’t have to but if that’s all I had then Id make the best of it. I think online control is very different to reading a book. For a start its two real people that are showing there individuality to one another. Words are written back and forth spontaneously and interactions are taking shape through written conversations. You do not have a conversation with a book. You read it, take things on board and go away with an opinion of what you have read, that’s it. I would of thought that you could learn an awful lot from online control. For a start, a lot of thought has to go into a command and a lot of trust to know that command will be played out. D/s is always a skilful thing, weather done standing next to each other or done as online. The dominant has to use imagination and probably more so online. The worry, I would of thought, that most online dominants will have are, is the sub really doing what I order him/her to do or are they just telling me they are. My answer to that would be, does it actually matter? If I was dominating someone online then I hope I would know when I had that subs head. i think the whole cyber concept is silly unless u plan to meet... but its a good intro if its going to lead to something in realtime...gettin used to each other and seein if u mesh... but alot of people like this fantasy stuff... but generally i think that is just married folks lookin for some spice
