Meaning meeting like minded people, parties and functions, etc.

I'm in NYC now but am considering moving to LA or SF for other reasons.  I think SF is probably the most kink friendly.

NYC wins in the US... but bangkok or hong kong is great... SF is mostly gay tho there is some cool spots... i would say LA is better is ur str8... big place for orgies and swingers, LA is... Austin has highest swinger pop per capita... its helpful if its just BDSM ur lookin 4 or other kinks for people to really say

San Fransisco has a little more scene (plus there's Folsom). There's a lot of clubs in the area and we've really enjoyed our visits there. A friend of ours ran one of the clubs up there and has good things to say about the community.

LA has a few clubs, regular socials in different areas, some good stores and a fun fetish ball. The LA scene is very active and vibrant.

NYC definitely wins East Coast for sheer numbers and out there, but I put DC/Baltimore head to head in terms of overall quality.

Boston isn't too shabby on its own either, neither is Atlanta.  And NC has a surprising number of active groups.

For Texas, Austin is full to the brim of stuff, you just have to look for it, and there's meaty stuff throughout the state if you can take the time for it.

I can't say much personally about any West Coasters, but I know there's plenty to enjoy as well.

I'd say worry more about the overall city itself.  Kinky groups in big towns can vary widely in personality and purpose.  Some you might love, some you might not.  While you might only spend a few nights a month at the kinky events, you'll have to spend every day LIVING and working in that particular town.

I've played in NY for 10 years and the thing I mostly don't like about it is that it's full of goth kids, cyberpunks, etc... I have nothing against them but there's definitely a big crossover.  I don't think that this is the case in a lot of other areas, particularly in Berlin or London.  I'd be interested to find out.

The SF scene is large but rather drab and industrial and for style it gets a 4 out of 10 and I think LA gets an 8 out of 10.

There IS a deeper element in the SF scene but it isn't easy to find, rember that many of the authors and therapists live in SF.   Although is has its share of shallow assholes too.

Other than my former owner growing up outside Detroit, I haven't heard anything about it really, specially not kinky, and have no actual experience.

Washington DC..
I've heard in the US it's the hub central of community events and public group activity.
LOL of course I'm from the area so I'm biased, but this concept came from others who visit here telling me this repeatedly.
From what I've heard there's deeper public community involvment in the UK, but for the US it's pretty active here.

Chicago has a diverse and active scene. There are three dungeons and a few other pro dungeons, although i haven't been to the pro ones. There are also lots of private play parties for various groups. There are also a few big events held each year such as Kinky Kollege, Sinsations, and Shibiracon (gawd i know i butchered the spelling of that). Between that and all the various munches, sloshes, and groups, if you can't find something to do in Chicago you really aren't looking very hard.

I am partial to Denver, but I live here. I have a lot of friends from Seattle which has a great scene also. Pheonix AZ has a nice scene as well from what I hear. I have met some folks from San Francisco and it sounds like they have a great scene also. I know that Texas has a great huge scene but I can't remember what city. Philadelphia had a large community but no play spaces when I lived there. New Jersey also had a great community, but I never had the chance to look for clubs there. Kansas City is has more swingers than BDSMers, at least if you are on the outside looking in, the community there is mostly underground. St. Louis Missouri also has a great community, but again it is mostly underground. I have friends in Illinoise who can't find a thing. New York has some great clubs, but I don't know anything about the community.

That is what I know of BDSM in cities across the US. I have friends all over the US, but a lot of them don't seek out BDSM communities or clubs in their areas.

As I am originally from New York, I will usually stick to My hometown having the best scene (because I am wonderfully biased and I still love My New York).

But, I've moved to Phoenix, AZ now and they actually do have a fairly nice scene down here once Y/you get into it and start seeking it out.

I can tell you one thing ... it isn't Daytona Beach !!  We moved here from Pittsburgh a few years ago, and actually Pittsburgh has a bunch of munches and groups, a monthly workshop, and a huge fetish store and dungeon .... a nice scene for a smaller city.

The Lair De Sade is a great fetish club, located in North Hollywood. It's members and guests only, but you can get invited to "insight" evenings (Usually twice a month events) by emailling them expressing an interest.

There's also Passive Arts Studio/Pantheon West group.

Threshold for playparties and munches.

The Dominion - Fem Domme Club

The Chateau, esp for male subs/foot fetishists.

The Avatar Club for Gay LeatherMen.

...not to mention sexeral dozen prominantly advertising Pro Dommes easilly found through google. How anyone could not find the BDSM scene in L.A is beyond me! And yes, I know our profile says "Australia"...we travel alot.
