Are you D/s outside of your relationship?

I mean within reason: if you are a sub/slave do you call grocery clerks "Sir"? I doubt you "get on your knees, bitch" for anyone who asks. If You are a Domina (or Dom) do you feel the grocery clerk owes you a level of respect without telling him to kneel before his superior?

I have reiterated time and again, in many other forums I belong to..
I am not "a" slave or submissive. I am Wolfs slave/submissive. If there is someone he fels is due respect from me that I do not already provide, that is his command

I work in computer user support. People come to me with their problems and need technical assistance.

I am polite, I call them sir or ma'am, I smile, I am extremely helpful, I am deferential.

I also have root privilege and can destroy them utterly like the crawling mewling little worms they are.

Clear as mud?

The grocery store clerk is no different from the person at tech support who answers your trouble call. You are the customer, and they are an employee who is expected to treat the customer with respect and courtesy at all times. If the clerk or tech support person does not treat the customer accordingly, the problem is usally addressed to and with a superior, or supervisor of the errant employee.

This vanilla process is somewhat universal, and there's no provision that I know of that allows for D/s... it's simply C/e (Customer/employee).

Courtesy often varies by geographical location. In the south for instance, it is not uncommon if your name is John to be referred to as "Mister John", or if your name is Sally to be referred to as "Miss Sally"... simply in courtesy. If I referred to Sally as "Miss Sally", I am not saying "Mistress Sally"... as it's vanilla, and totally non D/s, simply courtesy.

Interesting question,

i do wonder about those roles in every day life: for example, i've met Doms who work as police officers, fire fighters, serve in the military, or work in some authoritative type of work.

i'm not sure of what types of work many subs do, but i work in social work, which is serving people, and i wonder if how one identifies: D/s or switch plays a role in what type of work one gets into?

Not necessarily - I have read many profiles that state something along the lines of 'I am in a position of authority at work so all I want to do when I get home to you is submit to your every desire and not have to make any decisions'

I serve no one in my everyday life. They serve me. Well, if we have to use that word serving. Basically I am the boss and people listen to me. I have more than one career, but in both it is the same for me.

Although you could look at police officers, firefighters and the military as subservient work just as easy. They are really serving the public and they have to obey strict orders.

I think it just depends on how you look at life and certain occupations. As a social worker are you not guiding others to a better life?

You mean you are Nick Burns, the corporate computer guy? Jimmy Fallon's skit on SNL was funny, esp the one where Christopher Walken was Guest Host and played Nick Burns Sr, and shouted MOVE!!! to the cocky Nick Burns Jr (Fallon)!

A drive, what the hell is a drive? CD-ROM device... no-no, that's my cupholder!

I used to love slipping blank floppies into A: drives and watch the fun at bootup, but those were discrete PC's and not network terminals.

No, I am only D/s inside of it.  I don't feel the need to be submissive to any person on the street, and most would say I can have a demanding personality.

I am sub to Master because he brings it out in me, no one else does that.

No.  ...but I am always treated with sort of over the top courtesy by therm.  I do have a "presence"

I'm a dominant.  I call grocery clerks sir and ma'am because it's polite and they deserve to be spoken to with respect.  I expect the same in return.  I believe in common courtesy...or perhaps not so common courtesy.  But who I control in a D/s sense is only my slave.  I am in situations in every day life where I sometimes have to lead and sometimes have to or choose to follow.  That's simply living life.

I like that same "presence."  But being a big girl with a big voice and a big attitude (you get the picutre) sorta helps them be extra courteous to me. That is why it is so much fun to be the real me elsewhere.

best!

MANNERS have nothing to do with being Dominant or submissive. The grocery clerk owes me nothing, whether he is submissive or not. I am Dominant because that is my nature. If I acted like you've described below, I'd just be another rude asshole giving the D/s community a bad name.

Ditto. It even happens with children, with me. I am very strict (though kind), I don't let them get away with squat. I don't even like 'em much, and for some weird reason they treat me with respect, and cluster about me. Go figure.
