Iraq insurgents used children in car bombing----
children are just as much the fighters in any war of occupation
and they are insurgent because we are occupying their homeland.

The reason that Saddam and Rumsfield were shaking hands is americas interests at that time aligned with his, we armed him for the war in Iran.  We were a little browned off that them guys gave our Reza Pavahli  the heave ho. Not in our best interests...as usual, we didn't follow thru for all kind of reasons....The day that Saddam walked into Kuwait, we should have blown his fuckin head off cause that just ain't crikket old boy.  We didnt. The fact that he was quiet, as is Mohammar Khaddafy would indicate that he was of no threat to us.   Hey, motherfuckers wanna fight terrorists, let's go get em.  Nothing in Iran and Iraq to see---we are gonna fuck around until Turkey wants to bop in there.  We already are wrongly siding big in Isreal.  Let them deal with it, the time to go, has as they say, come and went. Let them go back to playing stickball with one anothers heads and rubbing lamps.  They have sorted it out before, and have done it long before the crusades in the 9th century or the 20th.  It will not change anything in the long run.  Some shit is broke and you can't fix it, like a divorce, we walked from Vietnam, Korea, many places and they existed long before and way this is shaping up, long after we hepped them to our wisdom.

Or, KU!!!!

Butt pyramids and murdering children are both bad but what I was referring to was a hypocritical argument that you so often hear from Bush-bashers, namely they weep and moan about butt pyramids one minute, then the next they're telling us that "Saddam Hussein knew how to keep those (add derisive term here) in check".

The difference being that Saddam Hussein's Sins were not OUR SINS.

And now our troops must endure the stain of PERMITTING a comrade to murder a 5 year old and her family so that he could rape, then murder the 14 year old daughter. EVERY SOLDIER bears that dishonor. If they HAD honor, the Sarge would have drawn his weapon, and shot the animal dead.

Among other atrocities. And YOU, ME, BUSH, EVERYONE also bears that dishonor.

WTF are you using terms like "Moonbat" for?

Actually, I am not so offended by the term moonbat... wasn't it derrived from the name of a rather excellent journalist, George Monbiot?

Rather be called a moonbat than a Hanniter

The key question, to which I honestly don't have an answer, is whether we're doing any good -- to the Iraqis, to ourselves -- by remaining there.

I don't have an answer either. Lots of people are being killed in Iraq, but lots of people were already being killed. I would say that there is a chance that the killing might stop. That possibly couldn't be said if Saddam or one of his sons were in power. All speculation of course.

What I like about your position in this post and the "Was Saddam a Threat" post, is that at least you are avoiding batching the mistake of going as a reason to leave. These things might be the same, but also might not. To use an analogy, some Europeans made a mistake not standing up to the Nazis when they annexed the Rhineland, but that rather huge mistake wasn't a reason to not fight the Nazis. Market Garden was a mistake which turned into a military disaster, and was undertaken for questionable objectives, but wasn't a reason to pack and go home. You certainly couldn't say, "Look, you fouled up really badly in Market Garden and had completely flawed intellience, so instead of diverting 3rd Army resources to Montgomery to take out V1 & V2 sites, we are going to keep them and let British cities be leveled.

How different is Iraq, really? We probably shouldn't have gone, had questionable objectives, and very flawed intelligence ... but, does that mean we should now just pack up and go home? In my view, the answer it no. We made this mess, and are compelled to see things through.

Obviously some feel differently, and thats fine. I just hope that when they link the mistake and the future, they don't let the former, cause a bad decision concerning the latter.

It does possibly point to the resolve of our enemy to get us out of their country...It is horrible, reminds me of something that Kaiser Soze might have done.

Perhaps it was al qaeda and the kids were shia?...Who knows...But do we really have the stomach to fight this war?  Virtually everything explained, promised and executed in this war has been horrendous at least....What is to be gained unles you own the company that makes body bags and prosthetics...It's time to go....Burry our dead, hide our wounded and build some obscure monument to mark the moment.

The old boutique rule: You break it, you bought it.

I understand the appeal of that view, and part of me does think we have an obligation not to leave the Iraqis in a blood bath. But then I think we need to gird ourselves for being in Iraq for a long time. A decade, at least.

I'm of the opinion, that this was the plan all along.

farglebargle,

I seem to recall that during the Vietnam War children were used in the
fighting.  Do you remember more about that?
