So whats the going price the tooth fairy drops for teeth today?  i have yet to figure out what a proper amount is =( 

So i tend to over compensate...... 

i believe its all the dentist's fault.  He failed to spot 2 cavities, failed to give antibiotics until it was too late and 2 years ago she had to have molars PULLED.  Very very very traumatic experience...   ::shivers::   Imagine screaming um, a vise grip on the tooth..... (imagine large needle insertion into gum and wiggling um.... )  ::shivers::

So anyways out of mother guilt - the tooth fairy dropped about 16 dollars on those molars. 

Now, regular normal teeth are falling out... and well, i'm not sure what the "normal"  thing is.  Though i did realise she's got alot of teeth and they will eventually all come out and i will eventually go bankrupt.  So the tooth fairy only dropped 3 dollars this time.  I dunno....... fair amount?  Too fair?  Not fair enough?  i dunno.... i was thinking 6 - but the whole bankrupt thing popped into my mind.  5 or 6 per tooth can get really expensive...... granted its over a long haul.....

but hmmmm i dont want to short change the squirt or spoil her rotten.....

I used to get a nickle but that was a long time ago ....just after they invented dirt I think...what with inflation and the devaluation of the dollar and so forth you will probably have to have the tooth fairy leave a check becuse you can't put that much money under a pillow without waking her up.

A friend at work, also daunted by the five-bucks-a-tooth price tag, leaves gold dollar coins.

If you actually experienced the pain and suffering you described, I would go find a new dentist. I had all 4 molars pulled many years ago and felt little if any pain, just as my dentist said. To this day needles are no problem because a good dentist uses extremely fine gauge needles, he taps my cheek while jabbing it in and I never actually feel the needle going in!!!!!  Yup, new dentist!!!!

As a child I never had cavities. I got my first cavity when I was nine, a couple of months after I had died and my immune system was permanently damaged. Later much damage was caused from eating raisins and currants.
 
Do not feed her sweets and avoid sweetened foods and avoid sugar and do not let her drink carbonated drinks. Those are all very bad for teeth and high loads of sugars and food will significantly increase the risk of acquiring diabetes.

My daughter now 19 has never had a cavity. She did have to have two teeth pulled when she was younger to make room.

I used to get a quarter.  Her I gave a dollar
One day she found a tiny blue box I had kept all her teeth in.

she's got her fathers - or my mothers teeth.

I didnt get a cavity until i was pregnant with her (20/21) and its not that i was like super brilliant with my teeth when i was little. 

Definetly new dentist.  Other then trying to report the A hole, i havent had anything to do with him since and i certiantly wouldnt take her near him currently.  I'd be liable to lose my temper past logic.  God damn MAN - also tried to put nitrious oxide (sp?) on her with out A) getting my permission B) telling me wtf he was doing and C) Giving me grief when i called a halt to everything wanting to know wtf he was doing.  And of course... i was the bad guy for "questioning" the good dentist whose been practicing for years upon years upon years. 

But that was 2 years ago.  No need to get myself riled up about it now  = ) 

oooooooooo that sucks Swtns...

tooth lose is part of teh aging process.

if u have kids DONT play the tooth fairy game. i pulled my teeethh out to get the money!!!!!


anyhow- root canals are well worth the cash. contrary to getting them crowned ive had 4 root canals- a good investment

I'm not certain why you wouldn't want them to use nitrous.  I have severe dental phobias that I apparently have passed on to my child.  Nitrous is a very short term drug with almost nil side effects (for those that aren't allergic to it) It helps to calm a frightened child (or baby grownups like me) and allows the dentist to give a novicaine shot with very very minimal pain.  Now, I agree with you the man DEFINATELY should have had your permission and have explained every bit of treatment plan to you outside of her earshot before he began.  Any good dentist will stop the second he realizes a patient is in any pain.  I agree with georgejames entirely, switching dentists sounds like a good idea.  I just would hate to see you having too many negative thoughts about nitrous.  Its actually a fairly harmless drug. 

As far as money - I have never been comfortable giving money to my little ones.  They just buy sweets and soda with it.  I keep a small box of little dollar store toys hidden in my room.  A good grade on a test, a visit from the tooth fairy, little things like that get a new toy. Its just little stuff from the dollar store like a lip gloss or a fresh new box of crayons or a new dress up item.  Sunglasses, and the inexpensive fake barbie dolls that the dollar stores carry.  So far she's loved that.

When I was little I use to get those 50 cent coins, maybe do the new dollar coins instead. I always thought it was cool that I got the "special coins." I really like coins in general.

Five bucks???  Are you kidding me??? Give her a dollar and maybe write her a sweet little letter from the tooth fairy that can encourage her and make her feel special.  Money never does that.   I bet you she will spend the buck on absolute crap and will keep that letter for years.

Nah, she's 5 and god knows what happened to Santa's letters.  It gives her a thrill.. a momentary one... but in the end.

You know what she said today after she excitedly woke me up?

"Can i give it to my teacher?"  (yeah i was like whaaaa? why???)  Her response  "because it would make her happy" (yeah i then coached on how to make ppl happy.. write a letter.. be have.. learn appropriately.. we can make a card.. ect ec)

And then after school she promptly spent it on the ice cream man.  heh

Because i wasnt told first, i wasnt informed first and because when it was being "given" i didnt have a damn clue what was being given.  The dentist just thought it was "ok" to do whatever the hell he wanted to to do with MY UM.  See that word "my" - thats right, MINE. 

If the dentist had sat down with me and offered, mentioned, answered any questions i had about it.....  i probably would have been okay with it.  But he didnt. 

He's lucky i was feeling ill that day and not how i feel these days = )  i was moreso absolutetly startled - especially when he got pissed off that i questioned the OH great and WONDERFUL dentist about wtf he was putting on my daughters face.

::sigh:: i think i'm going to go daydream about smacking his face.......
