well you better hope they trust in God since our inalienable rights are derived from Judeao-Christain Principles/Laws/roots, some that date back several thousand years

And we all know that Judeo-Christian Principles/Laws/Roots derive directly from God.

i would hardly expect your version of God to be remotely the same as the version they envisioned, its how "they" sum it up with the statement "in God we trust" its unfortunate you have issue with it since they are not around to argue the point with you.

I did not claim I did not believe in a god source for all creation, but my beliefs are not Judeo-Christian, nor do I owe my liberty to Judeo Christianity.... you may disagree, that is fine with me, but I find this statement above slightly odd. Your beliefs are yours, I have never understood projecting one's spiritual beliefs on to others.

you may want to re-read that again since i said "they", not "you". so no projection.

Next in all the research i have done on the subject eventually boils down to Judeao-Christian, if that is incorrect you would do me a favor by either elaborating on it, citing it or directing me where to look further woudl be appreciated.

The U.S. mint recently made some new george washington gold dollars...and they missed alot of coins with the stamp. Was this a goof or did they really mean to take off in GOD we trust?

I dunno. Don't really care either. It spends.

I'd be willing to beat a heap of these new gold coins that (a) it was an honest mistake and (b) we'll nonetheless soon be hearing from Coulter and co. about how it's the latest example of liberal efforts to make America godless.

It wouldn't surprise me if this was an intentional mistake for the purpose of sparking public interest in the new dollar coins.

The American public has soundly rejected past dollar coin experiments.

It's really too bad, since coins are minted by the US Treasury and do not add to the public debt, as do Federal Reserve Notes.. which are issued by the privately-owned Federal Reserve Bank, and add dearly to the public debt.

I do not know where you get that equality is a Judeo Christian concept, from my point of view my kind was given the vote last and little more than chattel under the Judeo Christian way of doing things. You know the most egaltarian societies are actually small scale hunter gatherer, or village based. They usually practice Animism and had bilineal family relationships. Pure democracy with wealth redistribution mechanisms were often common in such societies. Some of these societies handed down property through the maternal side (matrilineal). So while you are concentrating on Judeo Christianity as some sort of paragon of equality, I just do not see it that way, possibly because I do not own a penis

i'd still rather have a "Thou shalt commit adultury" Bible.

So pertinent to the thread, yet so profoundly witty at the same time.

Well Natural Law which is derived from Gods Law pre-dates moses and the big ten which is the most obvious.  (unless you know of another "written" accounting of it?)

Then those who would attach the label to it all, "Natural Law" such as Aristotle, Cicero, Locke etc etc etc.

The Roman orator Cicero († 43 B.C.) summed up an important strand of ancient thought when he argued in his De republica 3.22 that “true law was right reason that was congruent with nature.” He concluded that “there was one eternal, immutable, and unchangeable law” and that God had established it as the Emperor and Master of all humankind. Later Christian thinkers incorporated Cicero’s conception of law into their own thought.

now i didnt read all this as i goggled it and grabbed the first thing that came up in a lazy effort to make my point about Natural Law.

Natural Law is not derived from a singular point in time or culture as such as you seem to have indicated but moreso as a developemnt over time of the combination of philosophy, theology, and metaphysics etc, to its culmination as the fundamental principles resulting in the creation and developement of our constitutional inalienable rights.

Yes i suppose the penis is the root of all evil!

are we talking about soemthing else now?  As far as "Indian Nation" constitutions i have not read them frankly as i do not live within their jurisdiction.

My only concern is with the 50 states and the 99.99% of that concern is with the feds

No we are not talking about something different. You are stating that Judeo Christian concepts are what I owe my inherent freedom to. I do not agree with you

Well no one owes their literal "inherent freedom" to anyone.  However we can thanks the work of the Judeao Christian community as well as a host of greco roman philosophers, metaphysists and theologians for putting it into perspective for us with labels.

i personally have not been able to connect the dots between your hunter gatherer philosophy and "thou shalt not: kill, covet" etc

So maybe best to just frame it and cite the literature or sources you drawing this from...

juliaoceania -> RE: U.S. Mint goof creates 'Godless dollars' (3/13/2007 6:07:25 PM)

I guess I am trying to say that Western Civilization are not the only cultures with rules, laws, democratic ways of running themselves, equality, and all the rest of the things that you treasure. Hammurabi law was one of the first codified set of  law. That predates Judeo Christianity
http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/ancient/hamcode.html

Hunters and gatherers were more civil than you would ever guess, and most cultures have precepts against killing, sleeping with your neighbor's wife, lying about each other, and that sort of thing. I am very perplexed that you seem to not know that people have been living under laws since before we had writing.

what i do not understand is how you are separating Hammurabi as being somehow unrelated to Judeao?
